States that are getting screwed.
« on: January 16, 2013, 09:39:01 PM »
So NY just passed a bunch of garbage, I here there is more coming in CA.
Here is the roundup for NJ that the NRA just sent out.
I don't know if I should be worried or not. My reps are all pro gun so there is no reason to contact them.
I'm just concerned what Christie might do. He has given his thumbs up to gun control in the past, but since his is a big contender for republican in the next election cycle I think he might not be to quick to sign anything that could give him a bad rap.
What do you all think?

State.
Assembly Bill 3645, sponsored by Representative Louis Greenwald (D-6), along with its companion Senate Bill 2476 would require ammunition sales and transfers be conducted as face-to-face transactions.   This legislation has been referred to Assembly Law and Public Safety Committee
Assembly Bill 3646 sponsored by Representative Louis Greenwald (D-6), along with its companion Senate Bill 2474, seeks to establish a regulatory system to govern the sale and transfer of ammunition.
Assembly Bill 3653 sponsored by Representative Angel Fuentes (D-5) criminalizes purchasing or owning weapon if person has previous conviction of unlawful possession of weapon.
Assembly Bill 3659 sponsored by Representative Peter Barnes (D-18) Revises the definition of destructive device to include certain weapons of 50 caliber or greater.
Assembly Bill 3664 sponsored by Representatives Joseph Cryan (D-20), Jason O’Donnell (D-31), and Mila Jasey (D-27) reduces lawful maximum capacity of certain ammunition magazines in New Jersey.
Assembly Bill 3666 sponsored by Representatives Joseph Cryan (D-20), Jason O’Donnell (D-31), and Mila Jasey (D-27), along with its companion Senate Bill 2465 prohibits mail order, Internet, telephone, and any other anonymous method of ammunition sale or transfer in New Jersey.
Assembly Bill  3667 sponsored by Representatives Joseph Cryan (D-20), Jason O’Donnell (D-31), and Mila Jasey (D-27),  requires mental health screening by licensed professional to purchase a firearm.
Assembly Bill 3668 sponsored by Representatives Joseph Cryan (D-20), Jason O’Donnell (D-31), John McKeon (D-27), and Mila Jasey (D-27), along with its companion Senate Bill 2467 prohibits investment by State of pension and annuity funds in companies manufacturing, importing, and selling assault firearms for civilian use.
Assembly Bill 3676 sponsored by Representative Angelica Jimenez (D-32) requires a psychological evaluation and in-home inspection as prerequisite to purchase firearm.
Assembly Bill  3687 sponsored by Representative  Linda Stender (D-22) disqualifies person named on federal Terrorist Watchlist from obtaining firearms identification card or permit to purchase handgun.
Assembly Bill 3688 sponsored by Representatives Charles Mainor (D-31) and Angelica Jimenez (D-32) requires a mental health evaluation and list of household members with mental illness to purchase firearm.
Assembly Bill 3689 sponsored by Representative Charles Mainor (D-31) requires security guards who carry weapons to wear certain uniform, including identification card.
Assembly Bill 3690 sponsored by Representatives  Joseph Cryan (D-20), Albert Coutinho (D-29), Reed Gusciora (D-15), Cleopatra Tucker (D-28), and Charles Mainor (D-31),  along with its companion Senate Bill 2430 declares violence a public health crisis, recommends expansion of mental health programs, recommends federal adoption of gun control measures, and establishes “Study Commission on Violence.”
AJR-89 sponsored by Representatives Joseph Cryan (D-20) and Jason O’Donnell (D-31) urges the President and U.S. Senate to ratify the Arms Trade Treaty proposed by The United Nations.
AR-133 sponsored by Representatives Joseph Cryan (D-20) and Annette Quijano (D-20) expresses support for creation of task force on gun control led by Vice President Biden.
Senate Bill 2464 sponsored by Senator Shirley Turner (D-15) regulates the sale and transfer of rifle and shotgun ammunition.

Senate Bill 2475 sponsored by Senator Loretta Weinberg (D-37) along with its companion Assembly Bill 1329 seeks to reduce maximum capacity of ammunition magazines to 10 rounds.
Senate Resolution 92 sponsored by Senators Teresa Ruiz (D-29), Ronald Rice (D-28), Sandra Cunningham (D-31), Nia Gill (D-34), Shirley Turner (D-15), Brian Stack (D-33), Loretta Weinberg (D-37), and Joseph Vitale (D-19) urges Congress to strengthen gun control laws.
Of course, none of the above proposed legislation will affect lawbreakers.  Gun control has not worked because criminals, by definition, do not obey the law. Your help will be needed this session to prevent law-abiding gun owners from being punished with another round of gun control and overburdened with taxes and fines that will have zero impact on public safety or violent crime.

I don't trust Chrisitie any further than I can see him with regard to guns or gun legislation.  I have no idea what his views are about guns and gun control but I suspect it probably echo's Bloombergs.  They have had a pretty serious crime problem in some of their cities.

Connecticut is considering a mag cap limit and stricter rules on certain cosmetic features.  Senator Blumenthal wants all ammo sales to be recorded and through dealers only.  Since this is ground zero, I imagine at least one of these things will happen.  However, as long as a mag ban grandfathers in existing mags it is unenforceable anyway, since I can just drive to VT or NH and buy undated mags there.

Claiming it's a crime control measure, some want to reinstate the AWB, even though over the course of a decade it had no measurable effect on crime.

Claiming it's a crime control measure, some  want to track ammo sales, even though when we were going thorough this nonsense after GCA '68, it had no measurable effect on crime.

They say one measure of insanity is repeating the same actions while expecting a different result. SO . . . are the proponents insane? Are they simply stupid? Are they merely ignorant?

Or (tinfoil hat time  [tinfoil] ) are these merely more steps in a long-term agenda to expand the state and exert more control over every aspect of our lives, since regulating toilet flushes, light bulbs, and Big Gulps isn't enough?

Trump won in 2016. Democrats haven't been so offended since Republicans came along and freed their slaves.

Latest I see is Massachusetts is looking at one-gun-a-month, 7 round mag limit (10 grandfathered, turn in your previously grandfathered mags).

I keep having people ask "how long do we have to buy high cap magazines".    did I miss something?

State Rep here, Diana Degette, has or will introduce a magazine capacity limit.  It won't do anything but "we have to do something!" has taken over.

Two bills were introduced today in AZ:

Quote
SB 1049 would expand the definition of "school" in ARS 13-3102 (Weapons Misconduct) to include post-secondary educational institutions (i.e., colleges and universities).   The proposed laws would make possessing a firearm on post-secondary educational institutions a Class 6 Felony. Under current law it is a misdemeanor to possess a firearm on K-12 school grounds and firearms policy on colleges and universities is controlled by the governing boards of the institution.

This looks like an attempt to head off the campus carry bill that is expected this session.

Quote
SB 1050 would outlaw the possession of any magazine or other “feeding device” that holds more than 10 rounds and make their possession a Class 4 Felony.

That one is just ridiculous and I can't imagine it having any chance here.

The likelihood of either of them passing is very slim.  They are sponsored by Dems representing places like Tuscon and Urban Phoenix.  Pro-gun reps are still a supermajority here.

Tucson is a plague due to U of A and leftist illegal aliens representing the FSA, but urban Phoenix isn't too bad.  Maybe 50-50.  Arizona is a pretty rocking pro-gun State, with the exception of Tucson.

I think Phoenix is better off than Tucson for a few reasons:

1. No state superuniversity in Phoenix (Tempe has ASU and Tempe gets a bit lefty, but Tempe isn't Phoenix).  The universities in Phoenix-proper are either for-profit (U of Phx, DeVry, Apollo, etc.) and appreciate capitalism, or mission-oriented (Thunderbird University = major private postgraduate international business school, Grand Canyon University = religious institution).
2. Lots of indoor gun ranges.  Makes for good urban recreation in the hotter-than-heck summers we have here.  Keeps gun culture relevant.

To be sure, Phoenix is better than Tuscon when it comes to RKBA.  But nonetheless, the names on the some of the latest anti-RKBA legislation have included reps from Phoenix.

Here is another bit of news I do not care for coming out of AZ:

http://azstarnet.com/news/local/crime/az-tries-to-patch-holes-on-gun-info/article_84d66f3f-0854-5903-ae19-1ada5a58b6f1.html

In short, AZ is going to share their Medical Marijuana database with NICS.  At this point the state of AZ doesn't push out info on indictments, or mental adjudications to NICS, but they are OK with doing it for medical MJ.

I believe this was from our Governor Christie yesterday.
I think my theory might be correct, It seems like he does not even want to touch gun control with a stick. Got to keep those options open.
