Super 8
« on: January 26, 2013, 04:45:12 PM »
So this is only several years late to discuss... but I just watched Super 8.

It's an extension of the Cloverfield storyline!  How did I miss this?  It's the same creature.

I just watched Cloverfield again about 2 weeks ago, google-fu-ing my way through it.  One of the kids in the party at the beginning of the movie has a Slusho! T-shirt and I googled that out of curiosity.  Evidently there's a huge back-story to the Cloverfield beastie, something about a failed deep sea research project, and a satellite falling out of the sky.  I don't really get it.

Are there any other J J Abrams movies dealing with the Cloverfield monster?

Super 8 was awesome. I huge throwback to their younger days of filming. I've never thought about it being a sort of prequel. Looking at pictures online they certainly do seem very similar. The creature from Super 8 escaped off Earth at the end. Also it is said the creature from Cloverfield was "immature and suffering from separation anxiety." "It is not out there just killing. It is confused, lost, scared. It's a newborn". This creature seemed much larger than the one in Super 8 which seemed rather intelligent. Also, "Reeves said the creature had "been down there in the water for thousands and thousands of years".[12]"
Would be interesting if he ties them together. Hopefully there is a Cloverfield 2 to done soon.

Lots of really interesting information of Cloverfield here, http://cloverfield.wikia.com/wiki/Cloverfield_Monster
On further reading I really don't think it is the same creature, possible, but I HIGHLY doubt it. Plus I believe before the movie was released J.J. Abrams said it wasn't a prequel.

Super 8 was awesome.

Plus it instigated great waves of nostalgia for my youth in central Ohio.

Plus I believe before the movie was released J.J. Abrams said it wasn't a prequel.

Abrams also said several months ago that he had no interest in directing any Star Wars movies.  And now he's going to be directing the next trilogy.

Abrams has a history of public misdirection in his projects.

I liked super 8 but never saw Cloverfield. I'll have to download it.
I needed a mod to change my signature because the concept of "family friendly" eludes me.
Just noticed that a mod changed my signature. How long ago was that?

My experience exactly.  The Fanning girl is quite the Thespian.

That's something a thought too.
Another thing I didn't realize until I started looking up pictures on google, the snow creature from his Star Trek movie also bears some resemblance. [popcorn]
