Smartphone without a dataplan.
« on: January 27, 2013, 06:56:05 PM »
I've got two smartphones sitting on my desk not doing anything.  Having a smartphone ( as in paying for voice and data) wasn't cost efficient for me, so I'm back to the indestructible "dumb"  phone.

What good are these things?  Can you guys recommend any way these can be useful without any supporting data plan?  When I think of it,  I carry the Bionic and take advantage of free Wifi where available,  but that's about it.

Backstory:  Bought the Bionic new last year as a treat for me.  Ended up just about never using it to it's full potential.  It's handy as a teeny portable computer, but found wanting as a phone.  The second was my little sister's older HTC that she ditched for an IPhone.

If they're Verizon phones, you might make some money from them. I'm in the market.

Sell them to someone that does want a smart phone. Or turn on the wireless and use them like a mini tablet would work, I suppose.
That is all. *expletive deleted*ck you all, eat *expletive deleted*it, and die in a fire. I have considered writing here a long parting section dedicated to each poster, but I have decided, at length, against it. *expletive deleted*ck you all and Hail Satan.

I used mine as a pocket spanish dictionary and camera while traveling. There was no cell signal of appropriate type; with the phone in airplane mode, that battery lasted all week without charge. Used hotel wifi to surf net during down time.

If it has wifi access, google voice might also work. I never tried it, but I know others who swear by it.

Conversely, if they are ATT, I may be in the market. <Sits beside vulture fistful on the branch>
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought
