Free E-Mail
« on: March 13, 2013, 10:46:10 PM »
Microsoft finally gave up on trying to persuade me to convert by back-up e-mail account from Hotmail to their new Outlook.com, so they just went ahead and converted me. I can't stand the new, squishy colour scheme. All nice and pretty and pastel-like ... but I can't see it, and the color choices don't help.

So I'm going to have to leave Microsoft. I know there's G-mail out there, but I dislike Google about as much as I dislike Microsoft. Is there any other free, on-line e-mail service that's worth looking it? (Other than Juno -- I have a Juno account as a tertiary. It's reliable, but it has a lot of weaknesses that I dislike.)

Sticking my neck waaaay out there, I will inform you that AOL offers it's product without charge.

I signed up for AOL before they started offering free CDs of their installation package (range targets by the boxful!) and just never bothered to go through the hassle of changing all my internet accounts to aything else.  Ever since they went to no-charge I have again decided it's not worth the haassle of finding something else to migrate to.  Being lazy sometimes sounds better than being a Luddite.

stay safe.

Hey you kids!! Get off my lawn!!!

They keep making this eternal vigilance thing harder and harder.  Protecting the 2nd amendment is like playing PACMAN - there's no pause button so you can go to the bathroom.

Yahoo mail seems pretty innocuous but there are banner ads.  I got an e-mail account automatically when I registered for Yahoo Messenger.

You don't say why you don't like google, but if it's the ads that put you off, for about $10 a year you can get a premium gmail account. It doesn't have ads and I think google promises not to probe your mail.

Also you could sign up for web hosting somewhere. They typically offer you several email accounts, but web hosting runs a bit more, typically $5-10 per month. If you just need it for email that might be steep. Does your ISP offer you any email accounts? You might already have some available for free.
Maybe a rare occurence, but then you only have to get murdered once to ruin your whole day.

Maybe it's the "google knows all, google sees all" paranoia thing.

That's it. Don't like megalomanic corporations. Same reason I don't like Microsoft.

Does anyone know anything about Zoho mail, GMX Mail, or Inbox.com?

I decided to give GMX Mail a try. Looks good at a first glance, and it will automatically collect e-mail to my Hotmail address, so no need to notify all my contacts that they should change my address.

The best part is that I can read the screen again.

I have reached a conclusion regarding every member of this forum.
I no longer respect any of you. I hope the following offends you as much as this thread has offended me:
You are all awful people. I mean this *expletive deleted*ing seriously.

That's what I get with GMX Mail.
