Wow,

A first class university, a booming economy, the nation's largest private urban redevelopment project, the single largest military base reutilization - none of that makes headlines.

But let a guy hit a coupla golf balls and it's puts us on the map for a bit. (link is to the AZ Central, but the story is AP)

Danny is a local agent for State Farm. Darn nice guy, too. He brings us pastries for our sales meetings and is always around just saying Hi. He's kinda overwhelmed with all the publicity. He said that a couple of golf magazines have even called him for interviews.

I don't live too far away, but I heard on the national news about the day to pray for rain.

So there, a guy hitting two hole in ones isn't the only thing your famous for.  All Amarillo has is being mentioned in a couple of songs. Tongue
Admit nothing, deny everything, make counter-accusations - APS homepage 3/4/05 - 5/20/05

Never ask a man where he is from. If he is from Texas he will tell you. If he isn't there's no need to embarass him.

Oh, I dunno, Amarillo has their nukes (PanTex), their kooks (Stanley Marsh), and a funny looking tilt-rotor thingy that the Marines must think is a plant because they keep sticking them in ground all the time.

And Buddy Holly.  And Waylon Jennings, sorta.  And Butch Hancock, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Joe Ely, Terry Allen, Lloyd Maines, and Delbert McClinton.

Lubbock seems to be a very inspiring place, musically-speaking.

Freedom is a heavy load, a great and strange burden for the spirit to undertake. It is not easy. It is not a gift given, but a choice made, and the choice may be a hard one. The road goes upward toward the light; but the laden traveller may never reach the end of it.  - Ursula Le Guin

The Westboro Baptist Church priestiss will be in town for the Andrew Velez funeral tomorrow. Maybe we will make the news when a family member or one of his buds shoots her.

One can at least hope.

I have intentionally stayed away from where they are expected to be - not out of fear of them, but out of fear of what I might do. Just thinking about that bunch raises my blood pressure about 50 points.
