So........ Our front yard has a nice slope up at the curb, not huge, 49" of rise over 18' 8" of run.... SWMBO and I have been looking at doing some steps over there in order to clean up the yard a bit.... Along with with planting an assortment of flowers, and just general clean up of the front yard. Taking our place from the scary house when we bought it to a pretty nice lookin' place... We looked at flagstones, pavers, etc, different ways of doing the steps. Finally, we settled on building some wooden steps, doing a box style step. We also are building a trellis at the front curb. Of course, the slope changes about halfway up the slope, so that just makes it even more fun.
So today, I got to dig two holes about 2 1/2 feet deep. And then start digging into the slope of the yard to build the first step. $500+ of lumber and hardware, 320 lbs of concrete, and 50 lbs of gravel. We built the first step that will be under the trellis (one more will be under there) 7" tall, 27" deep, and 6' wide. There will be one more the same size under the area of the trellis. And then up the hill we will go. :)
I am *sooooo* friggin sore right now. A couple of beers and some pizza have helped that though. Especially since the beers were an 8.5% ABV... :D
Going to bed now, but will post some pictures tomorrow.
