Interesting video, and I wonder if any of our senior command staff have done similar.

Something tells me he would never have made flag rank in the U.S. armed forces. More's the pity.

We can debate women in the military, but anyone volunteering to wear the uniform deserves, and should command, respect.

Others have praised the general for delivering a clear and strong message, as well as his impressive ability to forego blinking for long periods of time.

Totally true. My eyes hurt just watching.

Our latest sexual harassment/assault talk was considerably more frank, but then again my CO is an O-5 pilot, the XO an O-5 pilot and former marine to boot so they are used to down and dirty briefs and have not yet forgotten how to interact with all us proles. I still am at a loss of why this issue is public enemy #1. Just because Great Leader said so? Rates of misconduct are down. In the past 6 months I have attended 4 mandatory day long standowns, 3 on this issue, toss in a couple on suicide, some standard GMT, and sprinkle with a healthy handful of computer based training. None of which furthered my ability to fix airplanes.

Rates are down? How bad were they before?!? If the 26000 number is remotely accurate that's unacceptable.  The behavior of the brass got it front-page

is that the comparison you wanna make?  more than 500 a week assaulted by their supposed comrades in arms? and compare that to the general population that includes all the gangbangers and perverts?
from tailhook to now is it getting better? seems the officers are some of the most egregious offenders and they start in the academies with lil or no consequence and are quite brazen. ie the recent naval academy case

I asked this question recently because I had to do training for all hands on sexual assault.  The rate in the military is higher than in the general populace.  I wish I could remember the numbers involved but it surprised me a bit.  If I get the chance I'll go back through the training materiel and see if I wrote that down.

edit:  I would bet the answer to the rate vs. general population question is in here somewhere, probably the pdf about the 2012 survey.

edit II:  I guess I could include the pdf I was talking about.
