Android updates
« on: July 23, 2013, 11:17:27 PM »
I'm going through some deja vu with the new phone. My old one was great for a few months, and then it started pestering me about an update to the OS. I got tired of it waking me up to squawk about it, so I just did it. Then I was told that this killed any future happiness to be found by rooting the phone. Or something. Plus, the phone was screwed up, ever since.

My new phone is much better, but now it is doing about the same thing. What to do?

The phone is a RAZR M, and the suggested update is 98.16.3. Suggestions?

Hold off for a couple weeks, then check in on a couple android forums to see if its causing any issues. A bum update can ruin a great phone. The Galaxy S3 I had was wrecked by an update they pushed out right before Christmas last year. Went from still having around 40% of my battery left when I went to bed, to burning through a full charge in 3 hours.

It is much more powerful to seek Truth for one's self.  Seeing and hearing that others seem to have found it can be a motivation.  With me, I was drawn because of much error and bad judgment on my part. Confronting one's own errors and bad judgment is a very life altering situation.  Confronting the errors and bad judgment of others is usually hypocrisy.

A plan is just a list of things that doesn't happen.

If you're on Verizon, it may actually be easiest to go with bedlamite's solution. Their next update after that one fixed the battery issue, but the most recent apparently brought it back. I fixed mine with an extended battery for a couple months, then just bought a Note 2.
