I'm surprised this isn't already being discussed.  I looked over the past few days and didn't see it.

In the face of mere words from Al Qaeda, the Obama administration and Hillary's state department put their tails between their legs and ran like cowards.  Perhaps we need a new mandatory Stand-your-ground law for the State Department.  Their answer to their failure to protect lives in Bengazi, rather than to beef up security and defend our sovereignty, is to run for their lives.

I have another theory:

Since the Snowden revelations, a lot of people who previously were blissfully unaware of the level of domestic spying (and lying) being perpetrated by our government have suddenly had a wake-up call and are making their displeasure known to various elected officials. (Not everyone, mind you -- just a few minutes ago I opened an e-mail from an old friend who is an ex-Seabee, who thinks Snowden should be emasculated, eviscerated, evaporated, and generally hung out to dry.) But, in general, I think it's fair to say that significant numbers of Americans don't like realizing that they are being spied upon, and then lied to about said spying.

If we can accept that as a possibility, then isn't it convenient to have a timely, "credible" threat ("we know they're going to hit somewhere, we just don't know exactly where or when") to use as justification for all this spying and lying?

But I'm sure the timing is pure coincidence ...

REally, I think it CHurlish to Suppose That the current Administration is Going to such lengths to Fool us.  Indeed, we ought to RE-evaluate the cynicism we bring to bear on these events.

Interesting way to make a point - but a good point.

I disagree, however.  A tragic outcome would be justification for more spying on Americans.  Since they haven't released any US communications as the source of their story, it makes false flag operations less likely.  And, in any case, the idea that the United States of America would turn tail and run from words is crazy.  This is not the first time in the last 12 years that we've surrendered to terrorism.

We're fast approaching the 30th anniversary of the first time I remember the US turning tail and running in fear from terrorists when Reagan surrendered to the terrorists that attacked the Marine barracks in Beirut.  Surrendering to terrorists never works out.

Ummm, minor nit to pick, but Hillary ain't SoS anymore.  John Kerry is, so the Monty Python-esque "Run Away" response is not surprising.

This is the first thing I thought of as well.  Seeing the Drudge headlines about zOM(FSM) T'urrists! made me laugh.  This administration, and this government, have squandered their remaining credibility with the American public and are searching for a way to extend that line of credit just a little bit more.

Easiest way to do that is fear.

Politicians and bureaucrats are considered productive if they swarm the populace like a plague of locust, devouring all substance in their path and leaving a swath of destruction like a firestorm. The technical term is "bipartisanship".

Yeah. I remember when I was a kid and bully picked on me. He got so scared when I ran away that he had to keep beating me up until I stood my ground and fought back. He still kicked my butt but he never picked on me again.  Yep. Running from bullies and terrorists works out well.

Oh, yeah.  I forgot for a minute.  Thinking of embassy and consulate security in the mid-east just brought me back to Bengazi.  I forgot that they had to get her out of office before she said more stupid things that would ruin her election surety for 2016.
