Jarman said she managed to struggle free and reached for a hand-held bike pump she had in the stroller, bashing the attacker over the head two or three times, until he began to bleed. I kept hitting him," she said, showing the shattered pieces of what remained of the black and silver metal bike pump, which she said she always packs in her stroller "to defend myself."

An odd choice of weaponry. Glad it worked out for her.

Ah, but it was black and silver. Tactical with a touch of elegance.

"I'm going to take a different route," she said, adding that she also plans to pick up a canister of pepper spray.

My first thought about halfway through the article was that pepper spray would have been a much more appropriate weapon than a bicycle pump.

I once ruined a perfectly good bicycle tire pump while defending myself from a Rottweiler that decided he didn't like me or my bicycle. Pepper spray is cheaper and when I bought a new pump I bought my first can of pepper spray.

I was thinking of a different kind of "pump"  ;)

Me too! I was thinking maybe she beat someone with her shoe. ;)
Personally, I do not understand how a bunch of people demanding a bigger govt can call themselves anarchist.
I meet lots of folks like this, claim to be anarchist but really they're just liberals with pierced genitals. - gunsmith

I've used a bike pump more than once on a bike ride to dissuade aggressive dogs.
