Another reason to love USAA
« on: October 02, 2013, 12:45:20 PM »
A few days old, but I haven't seen it talked about. I think Navy Fed is doing the same.

In the event that pay is disrupted because of the fed.gov shutdown, USAA is offering no interest loans as well as deferred payment schedules to those affected. They really are one of the only financial institutions I have any trust or respect for.

My father was in the Navy and had USAA, and as a result I have my insurance through USAA.  Generally they are a good company but I can recall a couple of times my father yelled at one of their reps over the phone.
Thank God for the phone and 1500 miles of telephone line ... there's no telling what my father might have done had he got his mitts around that rep's neck ..... :police: :O :O

Good to hear.

I've been a member since 1989. Never had a major problem.

When I got out of the Corps and moved from CA to WA, we never properly canceled our renter's insurance so we ended up paying for the CA apartment as well as the WA one. USAA found this, called to confirm that we didn't live there and didn't still need that coverage, and then gave us the money back. Just phenomenal customer service.

I've been really happy with them, with one exception

Their mortgage service

They outsource it to someone who uses the USAA name, but it is NOT USAA

Terrible service, piss poor communication

Everything else I have with them is fantastic though

Yeah, they originate but do not service the loan. They were fairly upfront with us about that when we got our mortgage.

Navy Fed does the same. I've heard nothing but good things about USAA and plan on getting an account with them some time.

They were not up front with me, and the services answered the phone with "usaa blah blah blah"

Member since 1985 (I've got the Quarter Century Member sticker on my car).

Never had an issue with them and use just about all their services.   Yes, even their claim services for auto and homeowners.
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

My wife was sitting in line at a drive through when she was rear ended. The speed, efficiency, and general helpfulness USAA displayed in working through that was phenomenal.

I realize I'm coming across as a fan boy here, but so often good service is taken for granted and only bad service is noted. I hate that in my job, I fix an HVAC issue you've been dealing with for literally years and nothing is said. You feel slightly uncomfortable with the temp one day and you email me, my boss, my boss's boss, and CC a dozen people in your own organization to bitch about it.

Navy Federal is doing the same.

This is the notice that is currently up:

"Updated 26 September 2013
We have extended our offer to cover the 15 October direct
deposit of net pay to include
all active duty members
who enroll in direct deposit
prior to 9 October."

Here's a link to all of what they're offering:

https://www.navyfederal.org/about/government_shutdown.php?intcmp=hp|cont|3|about|shutdown|130926|title

I was working for Navy Federal when this happened last time. They did the same thing for members back then, as well.

I've been a Navy Federal member for years. Love them.

One of the greatest things that they do is they keep mortgage and equity loan servicing in house for the life of the loan. When you call about your mortgage, you are talking with a Navy Federal employee.

Other Federal Credit Unions that serve a military base also have similar programs in effect.

Pentagon Federal has this very simple message on their website... Affected by the shutdown? We want to hear from you.
