everyone gets paid.

remember those peaceful students who were pepper sprayed at a wallstrreet protest in 2011?   well, they got a $1,000,000 settlement.  now the PO who sprayed them has sued, and he gets $$$$$ too!    :facepalm:

as an aside, public records show his salary was over $100,000.  not bad for an on campus PO.

It is much more powerful to seek Truth for one's self.  Seeing and hearing that others seem to have found it can be a motivation.  With me, I was drawn because of much error and bad judgment on my part. Confronting one's own errors and bad judgment is a very life altering situation.  Confronting the errors and bad judgment of others is usually hypocrisy.

THere used to be a hilarious video of a couple of us during Drill Sergeant school, right after we finished our last training event and got our hats, doing Numa Numa.
