Looks like someone is in a hell of a lot of trouble.

Suspect in shootings of California law enforcement officers surrounded

(CNN) -- Authorities have surrounded a wanted parolee who, they say, shot at federal and local officers -- hitting three and wounding another with shrapnel fragments -- according to California police.

After that initial shooting, Samuel Duran ran and hopped fences in a Roseville neighborhood as members of various law enforcement agencies converged on the scene, police said.

By 6:25 p.m. (9:25 p.m. ET), authorities had located him at an otherwise unoccupied house in Roseville, which is 20 miles northeast of Sacramento.

"I know he's pinned down," Roseville police Lt. Cal Walstad said.

Duran has been sought by authorities "for the last couple of weeks," according to Walstad, who did not detail what crimes the suspect had been tied. After determining where he was in Roseville, local police and a special agent with Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations unit went there around 3 p.m.

According to Walstad, "once they made contact with him, shots were exchanged."

Any info yet on where this guy got the gun?  I assume someone on probation is not allowed to possess a firearm, but I'm not sure.

News10's Thom Jensen has compiled some information on Duran's background:

• Duran was born in Roseville and attended Oakmont High School but did not graduate.

• In 2009 Duran was arrested for attempted carjacking and resisting arrest.

• Family members said he was wanted for a recent incident involving a knife.

• A family member said Duran has had altercations with police. Those previous run-ins did not involve guns, the family member said.

• Police have said the Duran is on parole.

So why was an ICE agent looking for him?

Roseville Police say four officers were shot Friday afternoon during a gang sweep, including an ICE officer.

Police identify the gunman as 23-year-old Samuel Duran, a parolee-at-large. Duran is currently holed up in a house near 6th and Hampton Streets. Police have the house surrounded and have been having on-and-off contact with Duran.

All four officers were taken to the hospital. One of the Roseville PD officers is in serious condition, while the other two are in stable condition. The ICE officer is expected to recover.

Apparently Mr. Duran first broke the Three Stupids Rule some time ago, continued to do so in spite of getting caught & locked up for whatever it was he did (which the MSM seems reluctant to divulge), and is now once again reaping the consequences.

I nominate him as one of the poster boys for 

stay safe.

Depends where you're at.  Here, they changed the rules so that probation for something non-violent doesn't involve losing your firearms.

The bit that gets me?

Walstad said Duran was believed to be carrying an "assault-type weapon."

Great.  Like getting this sort of thing was easy.  (Oh sure, there's the bullet button ones...which can only legally use 10 round magazines. Which will now be attacked because of this tool, no matter whether his weapon used a bullet button or a standard magazine release. )

Bet that gets worn pretty thin after 10 or 20 years, though.
