Just finished watching "The Frozen Ground" with Nicolas Cage. I think this is the first movie of his that's good. The movie is very good.

In the meantime, James Cameron is going to make three (count 'em - three!) Avatar sequels in New Zealand. Ugh. One can only hope Sauron breeds more Orcs and sends them forth from Mordor. He can tell them that the Pandorans are actually blueberry pancakes.

I despised the first movie except for the head of security, who was the only guy who stuck to his duties and loyalties.

So what happens in the sequels? Does Pocahontas Neytiri hop on a spaceship to visit England Earth and prove that she's not some backwards savage?

Thinking over this, it brought a smile to my face to imagine the words:

Avatar sequels are going to flop.

I'm eager for a follow-up to Prometheus.

There was a good Aliens vs Predator book I read several years ago, too... a human ended up "hunting" with a predator, and earned a hunter's mark from the predator.  I forget exactly why, but the human was en-route to the predator home world at the end of the book.  I never followed up on a sequel to the book, but that would make an interesting movie, I think.

A definition of the relationship between the Engineers, the Xenomorphs, the Predators and Humans would be a great story.

They're the ones who need to have three sequels. To explain the first damn film.

In addition to the funding/financial support by the Kiwi government, I wonder if Cameron is making the films there because Peter Jackson's Weta digital studios is there. I have read some articles about how it is now one of the world-class centers for digital animation due to the talent and hardware that Jackson put together for the LOTR movies.

Just watched Elysium yesterday. I didn't read any reviews beforehand. I had really high hopes for the movie. Sigh. Not only was it a poorly done propaganda film with over the top villains, but stupid plot holes abound. Like why are there all these super warrior robots all over the place in the first part of the movie, then, when they could really be used in the freakin' climax, there's not a single one around, but they show up again in the last couple of minutes?

I'm watching Reds 2 today. I'm hoping it doesn't waste my time as well. This has been a stinker year for "blockbusters". I'm only glad I didn't waste money watching any of them in the theater.

I was a huge fan of Ron Howard's Rush.  The ski porn/documentary McConkey was also excellent.  I'll caveat those statements by adding that skiing is a minor obsession and that I enjoyed the Fast and Furious movies.

Just finished Red 2. Very much made up for sitting through crappy Elysium yesterday. Fun movie.
