Arrests made in real "Goodfellas" case
« on: January 23, 2014, 05:15:20 PM »
The FBI this morning conducted raids of homes of several mobsters thought to be involved in the Lufthansa cargo heist of 1978, portrayed in the movie "Goodfellas". Vincent Asaro was one of the mobsters arrested, and was a ranking member of the Bonano family, which was "Big Paul's" family in the movie.

Last June, FBI agents discovered human remains in the basement of a home once owned by Jimmy "The Gent" Burke, who was the basis for Robert DeNiro's character in the movie. The remains are thought to be those of "Billy Batts", the character in the movie who was murdered in Henry Hill's bar, buried in upstate New York and then disinterred when developers bought the land for condo's.

I love real life gangster stuff. A partial news story is here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-25866101
