Did Bachmann really say that?
« on: February 05, 2014, 09:24:06 AM »
someone posted on facebook that Michelle Bachmann said "If English was good enough for Jesus when he wrote the Bible, it should be good enough for Coke."  on Fox news on 2/3/14

I don't think Bachmann is much to brag about for conservatives, but she can't be that dumb?  Trying to disprove or prove she said it.

She has her moments when emotion clouds her verbal process. I'm glad she isn't president.

My automatic inclination when somebody posts something like that on FB is to say bullshit. Rarely am I wrong...most of the political crap posted on FB by the right or left is made up bullshit. I can find exactly zero credible sources that Bachmann said that. Its liberal made up bullshit.

By the way. A variant of that phrase, "If English was good enough for jesus its good enough for me!", was also claimed to be said by various right wing politicians.

No news sources or transcripts contain the any of the aforementioned quotes from Bachmann, according to hoax-debunking site Wafflesatnoon.com. A search of Fox News’ website shows that she made no statements to the broadcaster this week.

Shades of "I can see Russia from my House," and the pi=3 hoax.

I wouldn't be surprised if we learned that she actually had said something like that, and someone took it seriously. Jokes like "the King James Version was good enough for St. Paul, so it's good enough for me," are not uncommon, but could take the ignorant unawares.

I'm going to assume you're talking about KJV absolutists who believe that translation was specially inspired, to the extreme that it trumps the original languages. Slightly different.

I did actually personally sit through a southern baptist sermon (granted by one of the deacons, not ordained minister) in Charleston circa 1991 that brought into hot and heavy declaration that "Jesus said Jonah was swallowed by a 'whale', not a 'great fish', therefore it was actually an air breathing mammal that swallowed Jonah, not a fish...."

Yeah, we met someone that really believed "if the KJV was good enough for Jesus, it's good enough for me"  ;/

But I think she was missing a couple chapters from her bible  ;)   =D

Single funniest line in that movie.
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought

Oh wait, unlike the made up ones about conservatives, Biden really is that dumb.
