What he is acused of is henious and dispicable. But he has not been convicted of being henious and dispicable. Bail
used to be used to help guarantee the accused would return to court at the appointed time(s) and/or comply with pre-trialconditions of release. Nowadays it seems bail is used as a form of pre-conviction punishment.
Is the kid a flight risk? As in, how close is he to the border and how likely is it that he would be heading there? The teacher who is accused of "encouraging" the act was let out on $100,000 bail; no info on the two other kids accused of participating. Why is 'Nando's bail 3x the teacher's?
The kid took a plea agreement
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/07/17/fernando-salgado-reaches-deal-california-classroom-hazing_n_1680305.html "Superior Court Judge Douglas A. Fettel stayed Salgado's sentence of three years of felony probation and 180 days in county jail in exchange for his testimony. The teen could have faced four years in prison if convicted of both charges, Lee said."
Seems the judge did not have much problem letting the kid back out into the community after all the dust settled. No need to be a hard case a month ans a half later.
stay safe.
