Let the sailing season begin!
« on: March 25, 2014, 09:15:49 PM »
Managed to get my little boat launched this afternoon. A couple of friends got together and lanched 2 boats this afternoon.
It got a little scary for a while though. Nothing went wrong. I did feel better after I got to my slip and tied up when I realized I'd eft all my fenders at home.

If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

I'm sure you'll have a great time.  I'm jealous.

Me, I just hope to be able to see water, rather than ice, sometime before June . . .

We keep alternating between snow/ice and miserable mud  =(

I can console myself with how many people are likely to be crowding that marina in the summertime  :P

Didn't splash, but went and did a few odds and ends on the boat. Checked inflation on the tires, dragged it around the storage lot to turn the grease in the hubs, greased the hubs, hooked the boat to the hose and ran it for about 10 minutes.  Pulled the rods out and looked over the gear.  Checked the oil, all is well there.  Checked the emergency supplies, added sunscreen and bug spray to replace what was used up last season.  Started draining the water tank, but didn't let it drain totally (will fill and add bleach to it before we splash).    Bought a new Epirb, so that went in the ditch bag.
Forgot to get a fresh bottle of stabilizer, need to put some in there, gas up, and weather permitting I'll take it on a shake down next week.

Need to re-line a few reels, outfit a few more to my liking, and tie some bottom rigs for snapper season of course.

Really contemplating putting it in a dry stack for the summer.

Does it count that a couple weeks ago we would have needed a boat to get out of our neighborhood?   =|

We have an eight foot sailing pram in our non-working-hot-tub room.  Never been in the water while in our possession.  It needs rudder hardware.

Don't think that I haven't thought of that.

It's about 60 miles to the nearest lake  ;/

Now time to get bussy on the "new" boat and get it ready to go.
I'm shooting for before Memorial Day weekend.

The little one is for sale.
But while waiting for it to sell and while I'm working on the Cal I just as well get some use out of it and the slip I'm renting.

Weather looks good for sailing this weekend, mid 70s on Sunday.

Not with the Nor'easter that just came through. 45-65 knots of wind. 30 degrees. A bit of snow.
