The rest is just human imagination/excitability run amok.
In terms of the game cams, that was just moths in the camera frame moving their wings at some fraction of the shutter speed, and not in focus. All sorts of insect eyes reflect just like deer, dog, cat eyes etc.
Just like the people who investigate "rods" have competeley deluded themselves of the confulence of insect wing beats, focal length, and frame rate.
