rental car question
« on: April 25, 2014, 07:08:50 PM »
I have a date in another city coming up. I've decided that when I'm driving more than an hour away, I'm renting a car rather than take my Mustang. One, it saves wear and tear. Two, I'm less likely to get tickets.

For an upcoming drive I wanted a Chrysler 300. Avis, National and some other companies advertised 300's.  I booked one with Avis. When I called the office where I would have been picking up to ask a question, the woman I spoke with said they don't have Chrysler 300's and never do. I cancelled and booked with National.  I was told that I could call a few days before picking up and, if they had any 300's, they would hold one. That made me suspicious, so I called National an hour ago, and was told that they can't say if they have 300's or not. Against company policy.

I've had the bait and switch with car models before, where I'm promised a Corolla or "equivalent", and I wind up stuffed into a Volkswagen. I'm beginning to wonder if any of these places actually have the cars they promote, or if they just advertise one model and then give you a lesser "equivalent".

Has anyone else experienced this?

Nope is normal in my experience.
That is all. *expletive deleted*ck you all, eat *expletive deleted*it, and die in a fire. I have considered writing here a long parting section dedicated to each poster, but I have decided, at length, against it. *expletive deleted*ck you all and Hail Satan.

Yep.

When I used to travel a lot on business, one of the perks the company gave us was allowing us to rent something better than the basic econo-box. I don't recall the term Hertz used for the class of rental I was getting, but it was something like "personal sporting." The results were hit-or-miss. Usually I got something like a Japanese "sporty" model. Once I got a Camaro -- that was just back from an accident, had non-functional wipers (now how would I know THAT?), and headlights aimed 6 inches in front of the front bumper. Another time I got an SVO Mustang 5-speed. It had under 8,000 miles on the odomeeter and the rear tires were down to the cords.
