Moar gun law stupidity
« on: May 04, 2014, 05:58:17 PM »
Some guy in IL is applying for a carry permit, and he's said to be a gang leader with no felony convictions in his past. What really floors me about this is that he has an FOID card, so he can legally own weapons, but they think a carry permit is going to stop a gang leader from carrying guns the state has specifically permitted him to acquire. Oh, and then the other problem of trying to block someone from exercising their rights, when they apparently have never been convicted of a violent crime.

(Yes, I know the article is a bit old, but I haven't found any updated information.)

But, but, but ....

He's not a felon.  All I can get is that he is the leader of a social affinity group that perhaps engages in urban entrepaneur opportunities.

Why do people want to hold him down?  It's probably racisssssst, isn't it?

I have a brilliant idea! Why don't they arrest this guy with proof of his illigal activities and have him charged and convicted of a felony!
Then he wouldn't be legally allowed to have any guns!

Oh, wait, I guess they can't. God forbid we adhear the whole innocent until proven guilty thing and understand why it exists.

(and no, I'm not saying this guy is all sunshine and rainbows, an innocent little lamb of great moral fiber. I'm guessing he's as guilty as sin. However, since most of us are flawed in some way or another, I'd rather wait for conviction to deny rights to anyone)

Bingo, due process of law.  I mean, if they know enough about him to say that he's the leader of a gang, shouldn't they have enough to arrest him and convict him of various charges including conspiracy?  Or is his gang NOT engaging in rampant acts of criminality?

Chicago, I'm guessing, right?

I guess it's conceivable that a guy could be directing criminal gang activities, without getting caught doing anything felonious himself.

But if that's the case, it's pretty silly to worry about whether or not he's permitted to carry a gun. He either doesn't commit felonies, or he's smart enough not to get caught. Either way, the permit seems like a non-issue.

I've said from the beginning that IL only needed to make their FOID into a carry permit. If a person can't be trusted to carry a gun in public, why did the state give them a permit to own one?

Chicago . . .

It must be 20 years since reports surfaced that gangs were tapping young'uns to become FUTURE Chicago police officers - the strategy was for them to avoid getting arrested so they COULD NOT be banned from joining CPD.

Maybe one of these young'uns found he had leadership potential, and rather than joining CPD, he followed another career path . . .
