BAH!

VERY small explosion, and (contrary to the journalista's excited pronouncement) the whole house is NOT fully involved, even after the explosion. And the whole house did not explode -- only a small portion of the attic or second floor exploded, and that was in the area where a fire was already burning. Nothing approaching a "massive blast."

My guess is that there may have been a propane heater in the location of the fire.

Drone strike?

If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

Does it qualify as a BOOM!?

Yea, I'm thinking propane cylinder.

Having a beefy cylinder of acetylene in the attached garage has always made me a bit leery.

Maybe a BOOM, but not a KABOOM!

I've seen numerous photos of gas explosions in houses that left nothing standing above the foundation. This wasn't a single family house -- looks like it was a duplex, probably a condo, in a community of such duplexes. The explosion lifted a part of the roof over the side that was already on fire, and blew out the garage door. Doesn't appear that the explosion did much of anything to the unit on the right (although I'd expect some broken windows and melted siding). Doesn't appear to have affected the attached unit to the left at all.

I don't think it could even have been a 25-pound propane tank for a gas grill. I'm thinking more like one of the small propane tanks for hand-held soldering torches.

That wasn't a house explosion.

That's a house explosion.  Less then a mile from my parents.  When I was a kid we'd play in this field (before they built houses).

Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,

Blast pattern says probably gas leak.

For Scout's photo?

For the NH story, the local news suspects/expects something more nefarious. Pipe bombs, explosives, IEDs, gun powder, ammo stash, etc that the shooter detonated.

Could be any of the above, but it was still a VERY small explosion. More of a POOF! than a BOOM!

Outside of folks who lived in PA at the time (and fans of Unintended Consequences) I wonder how many people still remember that?

I have to admit, I'm a lot less upset by this when it's being done to Communists/Hyper-Leftists...
