anyone pour a polyurethane finish?
« on: June 15, 2014, 04:36:28 PM »
I'm making a set of cabinets with a wood countertop.  the owner wants to finish them himself and use a poured poly finish like I've seen on some bars.  is it better for me to raise the trim around the edge or leave it flush with the top for him to have the best results?

I poured a coffee table top,  and left some whew up to hold the puddle.  From the viscosity of the poly I used he will either need some trim to hold it,  or to plan on 4 or so pours to build up the needed thickness. Surface tension won't hold much more than 1/16".

I've never poured poly before.  I would guess if I left the edging an 1/8" proud it would work.....?

The guy who refinished my Mother's kitchen floor tried a poured finish. Goddamn what a mess that was.

Now that there are no dogs in the mix I'm going to scrape and sand the floors to get that crap off and then do a couple of brushed coats of a water-based poly.
