Kydex question
« on: July 11, 2014, 03:49:26 PM »
Think it will work for this application?  I've never worked kydex before.

Trying to figure out a way to add a "stiffener" under a camera attached to a harness on the back of a dog.  Right now the camera mount is double-sided taped and wire tied to a strap across the dogs back.  It works until the dog runs, then it flaps around like crazy making the video useless.  What I am thinking is a sheet of kydex that molds to the dogs back as closely as I can get it under the camera mount to give it more stable platform.

What thickness do you think I should get? I see on amazon they have .028" to .118"

Any better ideas?  All the commercial camera mounts I've seen either don't work, or are a neoprene vest that would be far too warm for an upland game dog.

Yep, you could do that. Find a harness, add some grommets to the harness, add some grommets to the sheet of molded kydex, connect with anything (550 cord or whatnot). Might want to glue some padding to the bottom of the kydex. Done

Ideally you'd want to screw the camera to the kydex for stability.

Thickness demends on what you want to do. The thinnest stuff is not meant to be used by itself, it's to add a stiffener to something else. Say, as a holster liner or whatnot. Thickest stuff can be hard to work with. Middle is where you want to start. If you go with what I recommended, you can buy a couple different versions and swap them out easily.
