There's a blast from the past.

Anyone remember Carling's Black Label beer? I remember the ad jingle from their TV and radio spots:

"Hey, Mabel.
Black Label.
Carling's Black Label beer."

Pretty catchy, huh?

I remember Black Label and the jingle.

How bout "I'd rather fight than switch"? Obligatory APS thread drift!
Personally, I do not understand how a bunch of people demanding a bigger govt can call themselves anarchist.

A buddy brought some Hamms to our squirrel hunting camp a few weeks ago.  It was pretty tasty as well.

I remember way way back that Hamms had these woods and waterfall advertising signs with moving lights in restaurants

"From the land of sky blue waters." Such incredibly innovative advertising. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o83xxWCel8g

Those were the days when art directors and copywriters and ad exec's went out for their three-martini lunches, and often never returned to the office. It showed.

Ahhh yes.  The good old days, when cigarette ads competed with alcohol ads (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8d6SMazDag, and lite beer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XM8wpJ69GE8, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAcuoDYlgzM)

I thought that NFL Football would have gone broke once they stopped advertising alcohol on TV.

Yeah, I drank PBR about 30++ years ago, when I didn't fit in with the white collar crowd.   ;)

I've got an old Carling's Ale metal bar sign.  "Nine Pints of the Law".  Shows 9 late 19th early 20th century policemen sitting on a bench in various states of drinking/sneaking/enjoying etc mugs of Carlings.

I've also have one for Champagne Velvet beer.  It's hammered foil with an Irish Setter lying on her side with her pups having a bit of refreshment.  The sign says Please Pay When Served on top and on the bottom The Beer with the Million Dollar Flavor.

I also remember Olympia also.
There are five things, above all else, that make life worth living: a good relationship with God, a good woman, good health, good friends, and a good cigar.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American Soldier.  One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

Blitz-Weinhard.  Have one of their signs buried away someplace.
There were a whole series of these commercials with the two truckers, Earl and Vern, trying to smuggle Schludwiller beer into Oregon.  Some of the funniest beer commercials I've ever seen.  Whenever we used to get a new one in at KPTV years ago, we'd all go into the cart room and watch it.
Here's one of the Schludwiller commercials

There used to be a few more on Youtubz but they appear to have been taken down.

If there really was intelligent life on other planets, we'd be sending them foreign aid.

Conservatives see George Orwell's "1984" as a cautionary tale.  Progressives view it as a "how to" manual.

Given PBR is the choice of hipsters, and hipsters are nearly invariably progressive, perhaps this is appropriate?

I remember part of the Piel's beer jingle...

"Less NFS, less non-fermented sugar, yesirreeee
That's why Piel's is the beer for meeeeee."

I can't figure out how come the FCC has the legal authority to prohibit beer and booze commercials. Creeping Prohibitionism.

For the Chillin's.   Altough I don't think the FCC did.  I think it was voluntary on the part of the broadcasters.

It was voluntary, only recently have you seen liquor ads back on TV.

Tobacco ads were banned from TV and Radio by law in 1970, Nixon signed the bill.

From charby's link above:

Quote
Effects[edit]

In 1981, the FTC reported that the health warning labels as mandated by the Public Health Cigarette Smoking Act had little effect on American smoking habits. Congress therefore passed the Comprehensive Smoking Education Act of 1984, requiring more specific health warnings.[5]

Sound familiar?

Government agencies have regulated all sorts of ads where you'd think they had no authority.

Way back when there was a cold medication called "Contac". The pills worked pretty well at the time.

Good TV ads were rare, and Contac's stood out. There was a scene were a mass of people came running over a hill, and then a giant purple inflated blob appeared, floating in the air and chasing them. The tag line was, "A summer cold is a different kind of animal." It was clever.

Well, the FTC demanded that Contac prove that there was a difference between a summer cold and winter cold. Since it couldn't be proven, they had to pull the ad.
