Government agencies have regulated all sorts of ads where you'd think they had no authority.
Way back when there was a cold medication called "Contac". The pills worked pretty well at the time.
Good TV ads were rare, and Contac's stood out. There was a scene were a mass of people came running over a hill, and then a giant purple inflated blob appeared, floating in the air and chasing them. The tag line was, "A summer cold is a different kind of animal." It was clever.
Well, the FTC demanded that Contac prove that there was a difference between a summer cold and winter cold. Since it couldn't be proven, they had to pull the ad.
