The store, or perhaps even the region of the country where this sale is ongoing would be nice.
Maybe a rare occurence, but then you only have to get murdered once to ruin your whole day.

Local store in Lubbock, but the price is also on their web site so I presume it's good in all stores.

That is the every day price at Wal-Mart in Ames IA.

I've found Cabela's, like Bass Pro to be a bit higher on ammo and firearms.

I don't consider $.37/round a particularly good deal...

I was at the Cabela's in Owatonna, MN a few days ago. (was going to buy a Ruger LCR but they were already out of the model that was on sale)  I bought a couple of boxes of PMC "X-TAC XP193" ammo on sale for $7.99 cuz I didn't want to leave empty-handed.

I've bought a number of items besides ammo at Cabela's, and got some good deals when I combined a Cabela's sale with Cabela's coupons, Cabela's bucks, and a manufacturer's offer.

Sadly, Cabela's has seriously cut back on their coupons - and my Cabela's shopping has diminished in proportion.

Next year we're going to be getting a Bass Pro Shops store - we'll see if the local competition has any effect on local prices. (Probably not - both are national chains.)

Bass Pro will make Cabelas look cheaper and better stocked by comparison.

That depends.  I don't have a Cabellas, but Bass Pro usually has a good bit of ammo and occasionally has good sale prices.  They also stock 180 grain 357 ammo which I like.
Down here, is (highest to lowest) Bass Pro then Academy then WalMart.  Academy usually has good stock also.  They have been maintaining a stock of Monarch 30 carbine lately also.

I had it for $6.99, but it's out of stock right now.

A price like that makes me worry you might start scrimping on the moccasin quality.
