I needed a mod to change my signature because the concept of "family friendly" eludes me.
Just noticed that a mod changed my signature. How long ago was that?

We filled the hangar at Diego Garcia with foam one night. It was a PITA to clean up. We were mustering all hands at the hangar to do the clean up and to fire up the wash rack to rinse off the planes. At least it is a much more friendly foam these days, when I first went in the Navy we were told the foam was protein based, as in pig or ox blood. Shortly after that we went to AFFF. My general quarters station onboard the USS Forestal was a AFFF station in the aft corner of hangar bay 3.

When I saw the thread I figured it was about the Tulsa ANG that did that today

RKL to slightly correct you the issue with the one yesterday (Tuesday) was with the Army Guard not the Air Guard.  One of my co-workers is a crew chief on the Blackhawks they fly over there and I am acquainted with a couple of the pilots.  One of the pilots also flys for the local CBS affiliate here in Tulsa and "leaked" them video and information.  Just wish I had been able to see it happen because where I work is right across the highway from them.

Great location for my employment, Blackhawks across the highway and F-16's flying almost everyday from the Air Guard base just about a mile and a half or so over.  Got to love the sights and sounds of FREEDOM.

So now you're saying the Air Force has a TIME MACHINE??!!!!
Can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we have removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that these liberties are the gift of God?

Oh but they will.

That foam probably does not play well with the metals and systems of the aircraft.

Actually they only needed to rinse them off a little.

One of the videos out is of the security camera looking dead on one as it was in the hanger and buried.  Asked my co-worker how tall a Blackhawk is and he said 16 ft.  Blackhawk is buried and he stated that the hanger is 25 plus and hanger would have been filled if the doors weren't opened.

A schoolmate of mine was a long-term member of his volunteer fire department (he eventually became its chief). There was a commercial airport in his district and one of the hangars had a foam system installed years ago. He was present for the test and said it filled the hangar with foam and pretty damned quickly too.  Whatever it was, it was safe to walk around in, as I recall, and safe for the aircraft too.

Per the blackhawk articles, at least some doors and access panels were open because they were doing maintenance, but the foam DOES play friendly(for the most part) with aircraft.  Makes sense because it wouldn't do for your foam intended to save the aircraft from fire only to damage them from the foam itself.

I mean that it is corrosive if not cleaned off ASAP, which some foams are of that sort.

As a former aircraft electrician (AE for the squids) I can tell you from experience that foam will cause unseen damage and a multitude of electrical problems down the road from the foamy event. Foam and cannon plugs = bad  Foam and solderless connectors = worse.

Speaking of foamies, have you ever been to Thailand? I almost got religion thinking the rapture was happening!!!  ;)
