Great piece! I posted it on Facebook and it was poorly received in some corners

It is much more powerful to seek Truth for one's self.  Seeing and hearing that others seem to have found it can be a motivation.  With me, I was drawn because of much error and bad judgment on my part. Confronting one's own errors and bad judgment is a very life altering situation.  Confronting the errors and bad judgment of others is usually hypocrisy.

It's  not easy being green.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

Heresy!  Burn him!

Also, highly unfair because he used science and facts.

stay safe.
If cowardly and dishonorable men sometimes shoot unarmed men with army pistols or guns, the evil must be prevented by the penitentiary and gallows, and not by a general deprivation of a constitutional privilege.

Hey you kids!! Get off my lawn!!!

Amusing to think that the extra CO2 makes the atmosphere more dense, thus meteors get slowed more on their way through the air blanket, resulting in less destruction on impact --and fewer impacts in the first place.

Just amusing, is all.

Despite the attacks on the "mythology" of the Gaia Hypothesis/Theory, there's a lot to be said for the concept that the earth and its ecology is a more or less self-regulating system.  This gentleman's video points out (as others, including myself, have) that increasing CO2 levels results in enhancement of vegetation. This results in a negative feedback to the CO2 levels themselves --one of the simplest aspects of James Lovelock's Gaia "theory."

But we must remember to separate the "mythological analogies" Lovelock used for illustrative purposes from the actual "mechanical" hypotheses he  presented.

And the point of my CO2/meteor remark is that we don't seem to either look for or cannot see the positive sides of the ecological coin.

It's almost as if we have some hidden psychological mechanism to assume a burden of guilt, therefore all we want to see are the doom and gloom aspects.

Using wood for fuel is not always bad.  The forests can actually be improved by removing some of the growth.

Fires kill woodpeckers too  ;)

I've always felt bad about the critters which can't outrun the flames, even in a so-called controlled burn.  I saw a pic once of a bunch of deer taking refuge in a pond with flames all around them which made me think of this. :(

Some trees, like jack pines and redwoods need fire to effectively reproduce- start forest fires!

Yeah, part of the problem is that we have been suppressing fires for about a hundred years and now things are getting overgrown.  I think a lot of the recent "extreme fire behavior" has been due more to fuel load than "global warming."  (yeah we've had some drought years but so did the 1930s)

Trouble is that the enviro-nazis would rather seen the entire country burn (along with all the rural homes and small towns)  than cut a single fokking tree

I burn my area once a year. It gets rid of leaves and fuel build up plus it cuts down snake habitat

About the only time that it is safe to burn out here is when there is snow on the ground  ;/

I can get a hose to the whole place. Burn a perimeter against the wind then fire off the rest it takes about 2 hours. I usually wait for snow before i burn anything big but the leaves go quick and then i soak it down real good just in case

I had to call the Fire Marshal when some non-English-speaking folks were burning a ditch here which also runs through this apartment's property on an easement.

That part of it was OK, the owner had an Agricultural burn permit, but the ditch also ran under a bunch of very dry pine trees very close to the building, and sure enough, they started torching under those trees!

I had heard the roar of the torches as they approached the trees, but figured they'd stop at the trees.

Fire Marshal came out immediately and told them they could not burn within fifty feet of a building and the trees came as close as ten feet from the building.  I don't think he wrote a citation, but man, was I sure relieved.

After that, they used weed eaters under those trees.

Whew!
