Respiratory AND cardiac failure in the doctor's office? How much worse could it get?

While I never was a big fan, I did she her on Carson a few times while growing up.  My understanding is that she pretty much broke the "Gender barrier" in comedy, being the first female "star".

As such, and for being a pioneer, she will be missed.

One of the talking head doctors on TV was very adamant that the procedure that went wrong on Joan Rivers should never have been done on an 81 year old woman with her history outside of a full-fledged hospital environment.

Expect a BIG malpractice/negligence lawsuit to be filed . . .

(Hmmm . . . didn't she recently claim Obama was gay?)

She was a pioneer.  But I thought Phyllis Diller was the pioneer.  (No disrespect to either.)

Anyone who would title her autobiography "A Lampshade in a Whorehouse" is/was OK in my book.

Carson was pissed when she started he own talk show and they never spoke again.  After her show bombed her husband committed suicide.  For her to reinvent herself and bounce back from that says something.
There are five things, above all else, that make life worth living: a good relationship with God, a good woman, good health, good friends, and a good cigar.

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you, Jesus Christ and the American Soldier.  One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

For the invisible things of him since the creation of the world are clearly seen, being perceived through the things that are made, even his everlasting power and divinity, that they may be without excuse. Because knowing God, they didn’t glorify him as God, and didn’t give thanks, but became vain in their reasoning, and their senseless heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.

So, she was sedated with propofol (the same drug that killed Michael Jackson) and had low blood oxygen levels causing brain damage.  So as the healthcare risk manager, the first thing I wonder about is how, and how often, was the patient being monitored during the procedure?  Did she have real time pulse oximetry, blood pressure, and EKG monitors?  Were the alarms on the monitors turned on?  Was there a dedicated staff member there monitoring the patient, or was it the physician doing the procedure?  It is certainly possible that things can go pear-shaped in a hurry, but usually you can spot the decline of the patient before they crash.
