Ow. I wonder if he used smokeless knowingly or just accidentally mixed them up?

Wasn't someone actually making a muzzleloader designed for smokeless a few years back? (Obviously, not the one in the OP.)
Trump won in 2016. Democrats haven't been so offended since Republicans came along and freed their slaves.

Savage 10ML.
It was for use with only a few carefully selected smokeless powders, maybe only one or two, IIRC.
It also used a specialized projectile- where the bullet's skirt would break the gas seal if it were over pressurized.
The barrels were also proofed- something that most muzzleloader manufacturers do not do.

Didn't the gun have "BLACKPOWDER ONLY" imprinted on the side?
Good grief .....
I shoot BP guns as a hobby .... I would NEVER use any modern propellants in them.

Perhaps he overcharged it?

I don't know about American manufacturers.  Most of my BP guns are Italian made and they have a "Proof House" that does proof the guns (with blackpowder) and also marks them appropriatly.

Both my MZLs, the American made TC and my Spanish made CVA barrel have proof marks in them.

Unfortunately I know several people, some family, who would do this without thinking twice.  "Awww, powder's j'st powder. Put a little dab in. It'll work fine...".

Fellow in the shop a few days ago said Ultralight Rifles in WV used to make a muzzleloader for smokeless powder with very impressive results (used judiciously). He quoted details which I don't recall.
