Need a new Man Purse
« on: March 16, 2015, 03:01:58 PM »
I have for a couple years now been dragging around in my car and such a Maxpedition Jumbo EDC Versipack.  I really like it for throwing stuff I want to have on me, but not neccesarily in my pockets.  My tablet, phone chargers, knife, a big bottle of water, sometimes gun, mags, rolled poncho, etc.  It's been super handy.  I can swap out stuff depending on what I'm doing, use it as a carry on that clears TSA super fast, walk around fairs/festivals without a back pack.  I love it.

I recently upgraded (or downgraded depending on your point of view) my travel/have with me electronics from a tablet to a 2-n-1 ultra book, which sadly doesn't quite fit in my bag.

Before I just get a bigger versipack (this one) does anyone use something different that they like?  I looked at attache/messenger bags but I like the more form fitting "Y" of my small Versipack.  I don't know if that will be as handy on a big one.

I don't care about looking Tactical.  Everything about me says "military" (apparantlly) and all my friends just assume I have a gun anyway.  I do want something designed to carry a gun for when I do, and something tough, as one of the things I do is go on ~5 mi hikes in parks with it.

What says the hive mind?

Michael Kors is very popular. Coach is very trendy, but overpriced.

Honestly, try Zappos

Ya know, I tried the Maxpedition man purse thing for a while when I was still working, and probably had somewhat similar needs to you for what was in the bag. I was trying for a somewhat compact "grab and go" bag that would do double duty in the office and in the field. It just never cut the mustard for me and I went back to the Blackhawk briefcase for the office and the Maxpedition Condor and Vulture (depending on how long I was gone) for in the field stuff.

I ended up, for a variety of reasons,  being much happier with an often 2/3 empty ruck than a packed to the gills man purse. If you're looking to carry a gun in the bag, you might want to look at one of the sling bags for quicker access to your gun, unless you're like me and often carry your ruck over one shoulder versus as a ruck. Though I don't know how many "non-tactical" looking options there are for bags with CCW pockets. You might be stuck with Maxpedition or similar if a gun pocket is a priority.
