I am a graudate student and as part of my research class this semester, I have to conduct a reasrch project of my choosing as long as it is related to psychology.

I am planning to do a study that compares an-as-yet-to-be determined attitude(most likely attitudes toward interpersonal violence) between gunowners and non-gunowners.

I know that most of the people on this board would fall under the gun owner category, but I want to deal with a broader group than just the guys I normally associate with.

The survey instrument that I use may be either one I can email to you, post on here (with approval of course), or use for a telephone survey.

Would you guys be willing to do this? It would be as anonymous as I can make it and will not be published. I will need about 30 people to take the survey and diversity will be appreciated.

The FDLE and Texas' DPS have publicly stated that CHL gunowners have the lowest arrest rate in either Florida or Texas, FWIW. I'd bet that's universally true, nationwide.

IMO, courtesy and low propensity for violence go together. I've had tables at gunshows for some thirty years, and I'd say the clientele were and are way above average for courtesy and politeness. Pretty much holds for all the folks I've hunted with, these last 40+ years.

I'd take an online survey.

If you have a strong stomach, you might find some "non-gun owners" (I can't believe I'm writing this) at the democratic underground website.

In the same vein, I remembers seeing some stats which indicated that arrest rates among CHL holders were comparable to or even lower than the arrest rates among the members of some big-city police forces. (pre-Katrina NOLA PD was one example given.)

Aside from going through the same FBI check as cops, CHL folks are generally older--less testosterone--and given the number of doctors/engineers/lawyers, on average better educated. More disposable income; thus, more to lose by misbehavior.

I appreciate all of the positive responses.

I am still looking for a good survery instrument to use and doing my backup research which is proving harder than I expected.

If I end up doing this topic, I will likely have to email the survey instrument out, let you guys complete it and email it back. I woudl rather not do a phone survey as well due to concerns about confidentiality and my phone bill. grin

I will keep everyone posted in this thread.
