I come along and rearrange the dishwasher correctly before running it.  Google the article title for access.

I'd be fine with everything else if my parents would:

a) put the forks in the utensil tray tines down, and

b stop putting the good knives I've bought them in, resulting in cracked scales, rusty rivets, etc.

I don't see how there's a debate about flatware. When you put the business end down, they come back dirty, because they've been clumped together down there. Same-sized spoons are separated, because they also clump together. Knives go tip-down, of course, for safety.

Tablespoons bowl up, teaspoons bowl down, forks and knives pointy end down, with even compartment distribution and no overcrowding works for me.

Add 1/2 tsp to every load.

They took this out of the dishwasher detergent a few years back.

Or look up "Bulk Commercial Cascade" if you like having it all mixed in from the factory.
I promise not to duck.

Does your Glock go muzzle up or muzzle down in the dishwasher  ???

Back door.  Shhhh.  I don't think MillCreek wanted to say that too loud.

I do that sometimes with URLs I don't want messing up my history.

Shhhh.  Don't discuss.  Just use the tip.  >:D

Yep, been a reduction of adding phosphorous to items that go down the drain for several years. Phosphorous is a nutrient that leads to algae blooms in watersystems and kills a water creatures.

Which still leaves me wondering why I care.  If $Diety had wanted us to wash dishes s/he/it would never have invented disposable plates and utensils - especially for elderly curmudgeons living alone.

Whoopsie !  Maybe I should have put that more clearly.  I didn't mean the dishwasher tips, but the tip about back doors to pay site (and required registration site) articles.  Shhhh...

AAMOF, I use (and usually wash and re-use) disposable dishes and use the dishwasher for storage.  About once a year I run it just to keep the seals wet.  They're terrific energy wasters, especially if you don't shut them down before that drying cycle.*

I do use metallic flatware, though, washed by hand.

Indeed. But Lil' ol me being smart enough to add it back in, the impact is less than negligible.
