Just saw this.  My MIL drives a 2014 Dodge truck with Uconnect.  Looks like I will be applying the patch this weekend.

So glad I got the stripped, base-model truck without all the whiz-bang gadgetry.

Miller and Valasek’s full arsenal includes functions that at lower speeds fully kill the engine, abruptly engage the brakes, or disable them altogether.

FMVSS requires the brake pedal arm to be made of hardened steel, but doesn't require any sort of mechanical override if the computer says you don't need brakes?

Surely you don't actually expect it to make sense, do you?

i kinda doubt they can overide a vehicle that they don't already have physical access to the on board IP and mac address

Presumably these would be targeted attacks anyway.  It's not really rocket science to get that info.

For blanket attacks, harvest it at the dealership by posing as the guy from corporate coming to verify all the firmware has been patched.  Or just an interested buyer who wants to try several variations of x model.  OBDII ports are easily accessible, and one could be subtle about plugging something in for a few seconds.

Our Cherokee is a 1988.

It hacks itself ...  ;/

Doesn't appear to be the case bas3d on the article. Appears that they could remotely scan for vehicles.

My 2011 Ram has the Uconnect system but not the cellular and GPS system. I guess I need to do some more research into this to see if it is vulnerable.

I have an '88 Cherokee, an '87 Comanche, two '88 Comanches, and two '00 Cherokees. And I'm a certified olde pharte, so those vehicles should last me for the rest of my life. I don't care for all the whiz-bang toys that open a vehicle up to mischief like this. All mine have mechanical steering and mechanical brakes, and I don't even have an "entertainment center." I just have a radio with a CD player, and that's free-standing -- all the 80s vintage vehicles already have after-market radios installed.

Now I know who to ask for all my Renix problems  =D

This is our first Jeep, but we also have two full size TBI Chevys (89 & 91) and my 1976 GMC.  Those four total up over a hundred years old by themselves.

The there is the 2006 Chevy car that I am constantly cussing.  Going to trade it off someday for something older, but I don't know what ....  =|

their claims to being able to remotely install a jailbrake seem rather self promotional
