There's been a lot of chatter around the 'nets about that.

One TV station's video showed the "two ton" pile of ammo.  Figuring 1K rounds per box and counting somewhere around 37 boxes I come up with 29 rounds per firearm.  That won't even get through the opening credits of the zombie apocalypse.

Looking at the various piles of guns they laid out in the walkway so the cameras could see the "arsenal" I seriously doubt if the guy was collecting in the sense we usually mean.

'Scuze me now.  I gotta go figure out where all my guns are stashed so I can count them, even though I know what the total will be: Not Enough.

stay safe.

Well, looks like he's getting the "crazy guy" label in the local media:

It's always amazing how the news can't seem to figure out that the marginal difference in trouble you can get into between 1 firearm and 2 is fairly small, and by the time you're past 3 it probably decreases the amount of trouble you could cause with them.

Heck, I just had one trapshooter order several cases of shells. Total weight was 833 pounds. He said he'd be calling for more in a month or so.

http://www.sfgate.com/weird/article/Dead-LA-gun-stash-owner-described-as-alien-6402224.php

The more details emerge, the stranger the story gets.

6.5 tons of ammunition found, along with $230K in cash, and 14 vehicles.  Value of the firearms is estimated at almost $5 million.

His fiancee believes the deceased was a human/alien hybrid send to Earth to protect humanity.

A woman working for the fiancee has gone missing.  The fiancee and missing woman were apparently with the man when he died.

Best viral marketing campaign ever.

From Angel Eyes' link, I have finally learned why I'm not supposed to keep much ammo around:

Quote
@Bublelover It's a threat to public safety to have that much ammunition in an unsecured place. If there was a fire, the whole neighborhood would have been blown up.

And yeah, I can't wait for the movie.

Is the concession stand open now?  (It was not when I came in.)

I'll make a run for pop corn and sodas.

"A Toyota SUV designed to drive underwater"

He had an old land cruiser with a snorkel?

Also impressed that some of his scopes were not in a "never been fired" condition

Oh Dear !!!!  Uncle Jeffrey has passed !!!!!

I guess there's nothing to do but go bury him and claim my inheritance.... ;)
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.
