Gun mounted to drone gets FAA, police in a tizzy
« on: July 21, 2015, 11:53:56 PM »
I'm sure this guy isn't the first to mount a gun to a drone, but he put the short video on Youtube and it got 1.9 million hits in a week. The FAA is trying to figure out what they can do about it, and police aren't pleased.

I fail to see a problem.

I'm having a hard time figuring out how that can be considered bearing arms.

Targeting must be a female dog.  And I could not tell from the video, but there must be a mechanical linkage to pull the trigger.

ATF classifies any firearm fired by electrical signal as Class III.  They want to know if the possessors also posses a tax stamp.

All the rest is drama for the masses.

If cowardly and dishonorable men sometimes shoot unarmed men with army pistols or guns, the evil must be prevented by the penitentiary and gallows, and not by a general deprivation of a constitutional privilege.

I won't go so far as to say it's an urban legend, because there is some truth to this, but any electrical circuit, solenoid, or actuator that only fires one round per press of the switch by the ultimate human user is fine. They're not exactly common, but there are electrical triggers out there for some high end target guns, and designs for 10/22 bullpups that are ATF approved, that use an electronic trigger to get around having to deal witht the mechanical drag of a long trigger linkage and transfer bar.

If it activates the trigger multiple times per single action by the person pressing the button or switch, even as something as simple as a cordless drill with a cam in it's chuck stuck in the trigger guard, then yes, it's an illegal post'86 FA.
I promise not to duck.

If that's true, then I feel sorry for those few folks who bought a Remington EtronX rifle and don't have a tax stamp . . .  [tinfoil]

Anyway, I'm pretty sure I saw a news story about something very similar a couple of years ago.

Doesn't apply to bolt actions or single shots that you have to manually work the action to reload.

Cool video.  The only way I can see to aim is if you either had a camera mounted behind the sites or some way to set up some sort of aim point on the camera view that was aligned with the gun.  Not what I pictured when I saw the title.

Microaggression by slight thread drift warning

First, I find it disturbing that the word "microaggression" is already in the spill checquer.

I thought it might be illumminating to see how the Armatix Smart Gun fires, and whether it might have some relation to "fired by electrical signal."  I could not find any decent description of the actual firing mechanism.  I even downloaded and spent some time going through the owner's manual. In there, I found a couple of interesting statements:

A) "Place your index finger on the trigger and pull it to its rearmost position and then release it
completely. (Note: In order to make sure that the system is ready for firing the following round,
the trigger must be released completely after every single shot)."

2) "Once you pull the trigger slightly to the rear, the iP1 pistol is activated for firing. You must
pull the trigger fully to the rear within 60 seconds or the iP1 pistol will return to inactive
mode to conserve battery power.
If you do not pull the trigger fully to the rear within 60 seconds,
you must completely release the trigger to reactivate the pistol to allow it to be fired."

How does the hive feel about those "features"?

Lemme know when someone flies one with a downward firing directional mine. GPS terminal control, most likely quite doable.

I remember seeing a video a long time ago where someone mounted a pistol on a remote control helicopter.
"so I ended up getting the above because I didn't want to make a whole production of sticking something between my knees and cranking. To me, the cranking on mine is pretty effortless, at least on the coarse setting. Maybe if someone has arthritis or something, it would be more difficult for them." - Ben

Something about those charges doesn't seem right. I'm wondering if the authorities were frustrated they couldn't get him for anything, and so the cops said he assaulted them.

Too bad this isn't real. It would be a riot. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjG1n9FEDb0

FWIW He's been arrested. (and posted bond)

But not for the drone.

An incident last Sunday, he was asked to turn himself in Wednesday, and resisted officers so he's charged with that . . . but what was the actual arrest warrant for?

Poorly written story . . .
