Welcome to last week.

The last sentence in the Wired article is the money shot.

It's not a hack I'd be worried about, even if I had one of the guns, but it points out an issue with the so-called "Internet-of-Things" that folks are pushing us towards.

Is this a duplicate? I must have missed the original one.

IoT makes me leery. If you have a good firewall, low WiFi interception risk, it's not a big deal. For the moment. But I highly suspect a lot of those network accessible toys will NOT get new patches/firmware after a few years. Over time, you'll get more and more vulnerable electronics laying around.

Why they didn't at least use hobbled short-range BT or NFC (Or a gorram USB cable?) instead is beyond me.

Hacking aside, if they were interested in ANY military procurement, you'd think reducing the thing's SIGINT footprint would be a good idea.
I promise not to duck.

Willing to bet a competent person could easily secure it by turning off WiFi and use a cable.

That said, fewer people care about security than shiny features. It's a correct marketing call.
