Robert Mondavi, picked up a bottle @ neighborhood recently; very good. Don't recall the particulars, think a cabernet, maybe 2002. Tried another, maybe 2004 shiraz, unremarkable.

I'm not fond of the cheaper Mondavi's:  Woodbridge (?) and Coastal, but his Napa Valley cabernet is always very good.  But, now we're talking nearly $30.

For a somewhat cheaper cabernet, I really like Rodney Strong.  Maybe $17, always very good.

I usually buy box/jug wines. I refuse to pay outrageous prices for bottled wine that's way overrated. Give a bunch of different ones a try. I finally got my wine snob neighbor to admit that not all good wines have a cork. Some come in screw tops, and some good ones go in a box. I bet you can find a box/jug wine that you like.

Chuck varies. It's like buying surplus powder. Take a corkscrew, and crack a bottle behind the building with the winos... If it's good, go back in and buy a few cases of the same lot. If it's bad, give the bottle to the fellow with the hygiene problem.

Why don't you all sample several varieties as you post?  I would love to see the results.   smiley

I like Emerald Bay Cabernet Sauvignon. Taste's great, cheap, and comes in a bigger bottle.
I also liked a Cabernet-Shiraz blend that I tried at a restraunt in Sitka last year. I haven't been able to find it locally.

I'm enjoying a bottle of Yellowtail Shiraz at the moment, $%.99 at Trader Joes.

It's pretty good.

Yellowtail is amazing wine for the money $5 to 7 bucks depending on your state. Costco has the big bottles for about 9 bucks for those that really need the "heart" benefit. grin

You guys have a source for Llano Estacado or Cap*Rock wine there? If so, give them a try. They run towards the sweeters tastes of Texas wine guzzlers connoisseurs.

I got through law school on a cheap Chilean wine called Concha y Torro.  But its quality has declined.  These days I just get higher end box wines, usually for between $15 and $20 a box.

Overall, Chilean wines seem to be by far the best values.

Another vote for the 2 Buck Chucks.  I'm not impressed with the Cabs or Chardonnay.  Decent Shiraz, Merlot, and Beaujelais.  Here in Kali, you can walk into the "99 Cents" stores, and come out with a halfway decent bottle of table wine.  I wouldn't try to impress your boss with it, though. Wink

Living in the Finger Lakes region has it's advantages.  I can leave my home and come back two hours later having stopped at 20 wineries.  They all do free tastings too.  Most of what you find around here is around $10-$15 a bottle when you buy it right from the winery.  Some of my favorites are Cranberry Bog from Montezuma Wineries, made from just Cranberries, and just about anything made from the Diamond grapes.  Goose Watch winery has a great diamond wine, but I forget the name.

There's a wine-producing region in Missouri, west of St Louis a bit.  I've driven through it a few times, but I've never trued any of the wine.  Anyone know if it's any good?
