suicide, to avoid being nailed for embezzlement.  Looks like his wife and son were in on it as well.  Just the overtime spent in trying to find 'his killers' was over $300K.   This guy was a real piece of work.

Who's going to repay the time and travel costs of all those departments that sent official delegations (on the clock) to the funeral?

stay safe.
If cowardly and dishonorable men sometimes shoot unarmed men with army pistols or guns, the evil must be prevented by the penitentiary and gallows, and not by a general deprivation of a constitutional privilege.

This guy's death was HUGE news here a couple of months ago since it happened just south of the border (in illinoiz) and there was a massive manhunt for suspects.

Tax payers.

Those folks already paid.  Who is going to reimburse them?

stay safe.

Who will compensate any citizens stopped, detained, or otherwise bothered by the manhunt for person(s) unknown that did not exist?  Tax payers. They should jerk this asshats pension.

I'm sure he was not the only one taking $$$. He stole for a long time, I am sure others were involved.

I'm surprised they admitted it. I'm sure the unauthorized release of the "suicide" theory a few asks ago ensured they couldn't white wash it.

Quote
Gliniewicz's conduct had caused trouble for the village before, according to court records. In a federal lawsuit from 2003, a former police officer, Denise Sharpe Gretz, accused Gliniewicz, her former supervisor, of sexual harassment. The village's lawyers acknowledged in court papers that the woman engaged in sex acts with Gliniewicz five times in 2000.

The village's lawyers admitted Gliniewicz was suspended for 30 days. Sharpe Gretz eventually left the department. She said Wednesday she was unhappy with Gliniewicz's portrayal as a hero in the days after he died. Her lawsuit should have served as a warning about Gliniewicz, she said.

"It just irritates me that he kept his job after what he did," she said.

I love that they end the article with this gem. I hope she enjoys the sight of the people in charge of him with egg on their faces. God knows I would.

Yep, there was lot of extra police activity looking for the 3 "sumdoods" that "did this".    And I bet this would have stayed quiet, until the suicide theory leaked out...

Good on Anne Marrin for demanding an accounting of all city departments to make sure money was being spent properly.   Illinois has enough crooks as it is.

(As an aside:  They point out in the story that the FBI could get his text messages.  Why can't they get Hillary's E-mails?)

Yeah, I have to wonder if there was some creativity going on right from the start, as the earliest reports of how he was found sounded pretty convincing that it wasn't a suicide, or at least not a well thought out one; i.e. shot multiple times in areas that might not have killed him had help arrived quicker, gun found out of reach so it's not like he could have shot himself again if needed, etc.

Up here it was all 'police hero'  and 'navy 533L'  in the media along with newsbreaks for his funeral procession.

Update: http://www.startjuno.com/news/read/article/the_associated_press-personnel_records_show_years_of_complaints_against-ap

The more information that comes out, the worse he (and the department) look. It makes one wonder (1) how he ever made Lieutenant, and (2) how he didn't get himself demoted or fired.
