Ms. Boxer seems to be correct. I haven't heard of anyone, aside from law enforcement, returning fire on the jihadis. The gun laws worked to keep victims disarmed, just as intended.

There's some discussion about mass shootings vs. mass murders, whether security guards should count as "civilians", etc., along with the usual sophistry Politifact uses to push its agenda.

The gist is that few mass shootings have been stopped by armed non-LEOs. Politifact avoids mentioning that most mass shootings take place in victim disarmament zones where even licensed concealed carry is prohibited. Politifact also seems to discount successful intervention by a licensed armed non-LEO unless enough bodies have already been stacked up to qualify the incident as a mass shooting - i.e., a quick response to neutralize the bad guy doesn't really count since he didn't have time to kill more people.
