Just upgraded to Windows 10...

on my Surface 3...and I hate it.

It is bad enough on my PC, but it is absolute *expletive deleted*it on this tablet.

I'm not crazy about it either. I have it on my travel laptop and when I first upgraded (from 8), I loathed it because it slowed everything down. However after about a day it improved quite a bit. It apparently does some install stuff well after it says it's done upgrading.

Also there should be a thread somewhere around here with URLs to directions for turning stuff off in 10 to keep it from spying on you and to slightly improve performance. Might help.

Curiously, I just received an e-mail from a friend in Greece, celebrating how jubilant he is that an upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 went so smoothly and transparently. He raved about it.

In the interest of full disclosure, he was already running Windows Classic Shell, and much of his joy was over the fact that Windows 10 DIDN'T mess up his customization and settings.

The download and install was easy, but most of my settings were lost.  I had to reinstall all of my email accounts, for one.  The biggest problem I've found so far is that the Edge browser doesn't support swiping to go back.  The back swipe is so much better than trying to hit a small arrow with my thumb.

Lost settings? I upgraded Mom and Dad's machines (8.1 and 7, respectively) and lost nothing that I can recall. I agree that Edge suks teh bawls. I went into settings and nuked it as the default browser. IE 11 does a respectable job and didn't require a complete retrain of the Parental Units.

Been sitting on a new standard HDD for the notebook for 6 months. Fan failed and finally jumped through the hoops for loading. New drive is the same size just runs 7200rpm vs 5400rpm. Copying the retained files highlights the difference. New is waiting on the old.
Been messing with a VMware workstation VM for months learning my way around 10 as they where developing and releasing the next builds to the insider rings.
Many things technical where were they belonged in XP. Skipped Vista and had to look for one of the last 7 notebooks around that had a newer core and decent memory. Most IT folks I have read left 8 on the road that killed it.
10 seems to be the refocus on the PC market. All the tools are there and some are not as apparent as XP was simple. They are organized differently and many are modularized for purpose. Sure hope the helpdesk folks have some patience.

Not if you want to play DRM content (Netflix, Amazon Video, probably Hulu and others).

Hmmm.  Waterfox's website specifically names Netflix as having improved speed by using that browser.

I've upgraded my table. I don't think I'll be upgrading my home computer. Still on the fence.

I did my home PC first.  It still looks and acts like a PC.

I just did this Surface tablet last week. Now it acts like a PC.  Gone are many of the good things about tablets.

Even switched to the Metro interface?

It's a recent change (last Fall).  I had to install Firefox in order to access those services.  There was no workaround.

Are you talking about just using Hulu to watch TV? Did that change? I think was using Waterfox for Hulu just a couple of years ago.

I don't have direct experience with Hulu, but assume it has similar DRM controls as Netflix and Amazon.  Both stopped working for me after a Waterfox update that apparently changed how Waterfox handles DRM.  I don't recall the exact details other than there was no workaround, forcing me to use Firefox or IE.

Yep.  In "tablet mode" the Metro interface comes up, but it looks like it is just a layer on top of the desktop.  And every time I restart the tablet it defaults to PC mode.  I have the settings set to tablet mode.

I'll have to play with it more.

I went from 7 Pro to 10 and hated it. Reversed the upgrade with no problems.
I had issues with 10 and network adapter settings, drivers, and missing IPs or somesuch. I would spend an hour to re-establish connection to router or network and then lose it again in 5 minutes. The problems seemed to be compounding before I gave up and went back.
What we have here is failure to communicate.

A friend of.
