Ft Lauderdale Folks please step in!

Talk to me about the area. The Ft Lauderdale PD is recruiting heavily around here. The pay and benefits look excelent in comparision with other departments i have been looking into. So i am going to be contacting them about their immediate openings. So i was just curious what folks had to say about the area.
But my dreams they aren't as empty
As my conscience seems to be
I have hours, only lonely
My love is vengeance
That's never free

You cannot afford to live here.  I bought a house just under 2 years ago.  2 bedroom, 2 bath, over 30 years old in a questionable area.  Paid $149,900.  Same house when I moved here in 2000 was about $90,000.  Today, a house exactly like mine is selling for $244,000.  Gas is more expensive, groceries are more, utilities are more.  Good thing is there is no state income tax and sales tax is only 6%.  If you decide to move here, hope you like overtime because I just don't see how you can make it on a cop's salary.

I'm not from the Dade Broward county area, but TarpleyG has the whole state pegged.
Pinellas county is fast becoming built out and the house prices are soaring. St Petersburg is having a hard time keeping LEOs for the same reason I would suppose.
