Clarence Thomas Speaks
« on: February 29, 2016, 01:46:22 PM »
This is apparently the first time Thomas has spoken, related to asking questions on a case being heard, in ten years. His questions regarded the 2nd Amendment.

Glad he did. Misdemeanor convictions now allow a lifetime ban of constitutional rights? Sigh

Especially this particular misdemeanor conviction. Super easy for someone to use out of spite, and the way things are setup now, incredibly difficult to defend yourself against unless you have attorneys on retainer.

I don't know if it's the same nationally, but in CA they will take your guns on the accusation, not just the conviction.

Very interesting.  I wonder how his opinion will read.

Doesn't make a hill of beans. at best it will be a 4/4 split and the ruling of the lower courts will stand
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

Some places in Ohio a minor misdemeanor coviction for pot possession will do this.

That's why I said his opinion and reasoning without referring to the overall Court's decision.

Lautenberg is how you destroy a cop or military mans' career. Especially military since we are guilty, guilty, guilty even if proven innocent if a word is breathed of domestic violence.

I'm so contrarian that I didn't respond to the thread.

Don't know about cops, but re military ayep. In fairness, if the spouse is civvie, you can shred a female's career just as easily. Usually it's informally threatened during divorce proceedings, unless the spouse in the military makes significant concessions.

So much for "Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me." Now, suddenly, those "harsh words" we all joke about in other contexts become very serious business.
