Natural Falls State Park, Oklahoma
« on: April 01, 2016, 05:49:27 PM »
Took the wife on a little photo safari this morning. Natural Falls State Park just west of the OK/ARK state line. Parts of the movie "Where the Red Fern Grows" was filmed in the park.

The wife walked to the trail head and saw that it was a trail (couple hundred yards tops) and decided she would rather wait in the car.
Her loss.

4 frame panorama merged in Lightroom.

25 second exposure using ND filter,

Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen.

Nice pictures.
"so I ended up getting the above because I didn't want to make a whole production of sticking something between my knees and cranking. To me, the cranking on mine is pretty effortless, at least on the coarse setting. Maybe if someone has arthritis or something, it would be more difficult for them." - Ben

Loved that movie, "Where the Red Fern Grows."  The 1974 version.....I think there was an inferior remake.
I saw it in the theater waaaaaaay back then, have the DVD now,

Curious.  Was that 25-second exposure through an ND to "freeze" the water flow by kinda averaging it out?  I'd never heard of that technique before.  If so, seems to be very effective... moreso than a fast shutter shot in some ways.

ETA: At first, I only saw the left side of the pic --the major falls --until I went to the url directly.

Gigglesnort.  Reminds me of the time on I-25 near Pueblo when we passed the "Burnt Mill Road" exit.

"Daddy, what did they call it before the mill burned down?

"Why, "Unburnt Mill Road, son."

The long exposure made possible with the neutral density filter (sunglasses for the camera) blurs the motion of the water giving it that smooth, creamy look.
Lots of neat "tricks" can be done with long exposures. On a street scene it can be used to pretty well take people out of the picture if they are moving fast enough through the scene and the exposure is long enough.
