Doris Roberts passed away.
« on: April 19, 2016, 05:49:44 AM »
You might remember her as Ray Romano's mom in Everybody Loves Raymond. She was also in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and Grandma's Boy. She passed away on the 17th at 90 years old.

Saw that. She could always take a bit part and turn it into something special. RIP.

It's sad to see her pass.  I wonder if her gravestone will be based on Marie's sculpture?

I hate to laugh in such a serious thread, but that was a funny remark!

Great dame.  RIP.

Later, when somebody tells her what it looks like and she sees it with a new perspective:  "Oh, my G-d!  I'm a lesbian!"

And half of all Lifetime movies (my ex loved that channel...).

As Brad said, she could take something tiny and essentially meaningless and make it fun and warm.

There are far worse ways to be remembered than for being that good at one's chosen job.  RIP.

Yup, both really good at all the parts she played, and from what I could tell, also part of a slowly dying breed of celebrities that are "regular folk" and keep their noses out of political causes. RIP.

If you've seen her in ELR then you've met my mother.   Mom watches that show religiously every night.   One time when us kids were up late, mom had us turn on the TV so she could watch "her show".  None of us had ever seen it.

We were kind of half watching/listening when it slowly dawned on us that Doris Roberts' character is our mother !!!  Seriously.  If i posted a picture of mom she even looks like her.

We sat back and whispered and chuckled.  Mom, to this day, has know idea what we we laughing at...
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Sweet memories to drive us on,

That's a great story, Scout.  That show, especially the Marie character, was great.

My wife tells me that Doris Roberts loved that episode so much that she had that sculpture in her own living room.
