Trisodium Phosphate smells like... ammonia?
« on: May 08, 2016, 11:26:21 PM »
Is there any kind of chemical reaction or decomposition within the bucket of TSP powder/crystals I use occasionally to boost my dishwasher, or get oil/food stains out of my dress shirts in the laundry that could cause it to release a strong ammonia-like odor?   ???

Or were my kids just farting around and spilled a bunch of Windex into it or similar?

I promise not to duck.

Na3PO4, unless you're an alchemist it will not turn into ammonia on its own. Either something got spilled into, cat used it as a litter box, or you need room change your kid's diet.

Kind of what I figured. I'm going to go with the Windex theory.  :P

Or maybe the guy in charge of the recipe was a bit nearsighted...couldn't tell the difference between "a" and "H."

Was it really trisodium phosphate, or is it maybe TSP® brand of phosphate-free alkali cleaner?     Still shouldn't have ammonia in it; I think someone peed on it (most likely a cat)

Maybe a rare occurence, but then you only have to get murdered once to ruin your whole day.

Thanks to this thread, I just picked some up at Lowes, and it was in the paint section.
I wish the Ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world, Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you also were meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought
