. . . don't:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Vs7eK2SmGYM

Other than the front and rear sights flying apart, other than the excessive wear on moving parts, other than the crappy quality of the wood, the bolt closes on a NO-GO gauge after only 5000 rounds.

Makes a WASR look good by comparison.

Ahhhh, a Century Arms AK-47.  This is surprising how?
Some days even my lucky rocketship underpants won't help.

Bring me my Broadsword and a clear understanding.
Get up to the roundhouse on the cliff-top standing.
Take women and children and bed them down.
Bless with a hard heart those that stand with me.
Bless the women and children who firm our hands.
Put our backs to the north wind.
Hold fast by the river.
Sweet memories to drive us on,
for the motherland.

He said the same wood was used on the Zastava N-PAP rifles.  Thankfully, I changed mine out already for upgrades.  Now to watch the rest to see if I need to look at other parts.

Yes, all the parts.  In fact, just change out for an AR.

And why does he have optics on an AK?  Is that for show?

I would be curious to see 5000 round tests on some of the sub-$500 AR's.

I like red dot optics on AK's.  Fits the effective range of the gun very well.

Just because a <$500 AR might not last 5000 rounds, doesn't make the century AK less of a pile of junk.

=D  Watching this though, it isn't even a good base to upgrade.  Seems like the receiver itself isn't the best.

The iron sights broke.
The limerick, peculiar to English,
Is a verse form that's hard to extinguish,
Once congress, in session,
Decreed it's suppression,
But people got around it by writing the last line without any rhyme or meter.

Faster target acquisition.  I have a red dot on my Saiga and greatly prefer it over the irons.

Same, a PSA red dot on my Saiga (Red Jacket conversion before they were on TV...  which totally matters to somebody somewhere).

On one of those early shows they said that was 60% of their business.

I have one AK that I consider inaccurate.  It shoots about 8 inch groups at 100 yards.  My Vepr K and N-PAP will cut that in half or better.  Are they target rifles?  No.  However, they are handy and easy to shoot off hand.  A red dot allows me to get past the short sight radius.  And really, off hand shooting without a bench is where I will typically want to shoot my AK.  For that, my AR that shoots 1/2" groups won't be any better than the AK and I am more confident in the AK continuing to work while dirty.

So basically, Century Arms set out to do the equivalent of making a 1978 Tercel, but did it at a 1985 Yugo quality level.

Thinking about that last video makes me appreciate my conversion AKs that were imported as complete rifles rather than assembled as parts on a low cost US receiver and barrel.  they aren't immune to the same problems, but it eliminates some of the sources of error.
