Apple Bans Guns
« on: June 21, 2016, 10:40:34 AM »
Apple has banned guns, in the form of banning the rifle emoji in emails and messaging on their devices.

Sorry, no link, as I keep hearing this stuff while listening to Fox Business on my morning walks with the dog.

Interestingly though, one of the Fox reporters brought up that Apple has a "bomb" emoji that they have kept. Also, kudos to the Fox reporter, Nicole Petallides, because while she was talking about that comparison, she said it was stupid that they would allow a bomb and not a sporting rifle (vs saying "assault rifle", "AR-15", or other biased media terminology).

While I still think Apple did the right thing with the San Bernadino phone, it seems they've been going full bore stupid with lefty propoganda lately.

Given the current CEO is fundamentally transforming the company from a truly exceptional company into another tech mediocrity, they need something to hang their hat on.

They were always overrated. I do own Apple computers and an iPhone, but Jobs and company were always credited with things they didn't actually invent or do first. They were good at making the UI more friendly though and marketing themselves. A perfect example is the first iPhone. I had had Windows Mobile phones for years that could do everything the iPhone could do and more, yet it seems most people think Jobs/Apple invented the whole idea of the Smartphone. They certainly made it more user friendly, but they got and get way more credit than they deserve.

I found this article on banning a rifle emoji:

On the bright side, they're adding a bacon emoji:

How long before the usual suspects claim they're offended?

Interesting.  I thought they were just doing something within their own products. Pressuring the Unicode Consortium kind of goes against the grain of what tech companies like Apple are supposed to stand for regarding a free Internet.

I also saw it was a unanimous vote. Despite Apple apparently having a lot of ex employees in the Consortium, that still meant a bunch of "the Internet is a free space for ideas" people voted for censorship. Bad precedent.

Trump won in 2016. Democrats haven't been so offended since Republicans came along and freed their slaves.
