Apparently his jeep rolled into him and pinned him against his mailbox and fence.

He was quite the talented actor. I liked his performance in "Rudderless ".
Damn shame.

It is much more powerful to seek Truth for one's self.  Seeing and hearing that others seem to have found it can be a motivation.  With me, I was drawn because of much error and bad judgment on my part. Confronting one's own errors and bad judgment is a very life altering situation.  Confronting the errors and bad judgment of others is usually hypocrisy.

never heard of him, don't think I have seen anything he was in.  Still, it's a shame, such a bizarre way to make your exit.

TMZ said there was a recall on his Jeep because the electronic transmission wasn't clear whether it was in park or nor, and he hadn't taken it for service.

I've actually been on the boat used in the movie. It used to belong to the family that owns the marina where my boat is docked. They "loaned" it to the movie production company.

I first saw him in "Alpha Dog", and then in the new Star Trek movies as Chekov. Last week I watched him in "Odd Thomas".
Rest in peace, Anton Yelchin.  =(

Hello?  Parking brake?  It was even noted to one of his co-stars in the first Star Trek reboot film.

Damn shame he lost is life as a result of a moments in inattention to the details.

Most people don't use a parking brake on with an automatic transmission.

I always apply my parking brake when parking the automatic trans vehicles.  People don't?

It's something a lot of people have gotten out of since automatic transmissions have become the norm.

I always use the parking brake, except in cold and damp winter conditions. I had the brake freeze on once. What a pain in the ass that was...

I don't, unless I'm parking on a hill.  However, most of my cars have been manuals, so it's not using the parking brake isn't an option most of the time.

Out of force of habit, I even put my parking brake on when I pull into my parking space at home.

I park on a slight down slope with the wheels right up against a curb to the front, so there's absolutely no need for me to do it.

But, I do it out of habit, but it's a good thing because there are a bunch of young kids on my court, and I don't want them running between my car and the curb and the car slipping at the worst possible time.

Saw a story about this on NBC last night.  He was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee.  It has the new electronic transmission, which uses a traditional looking lever on the center console, but the lever moves a bit and springs back to center.  The problem:  Some people aren't shifting all the way into park, but only into neutral or reverse when intending to go into park.  Hop out to do something like grab the mail, and you might just get a surprise when the car starts moving.  Sounds like that's what happened here.

yep, that's what TMZ said, and which is why Jeep issued a recall.

Apparently there nothing to really let you know that you're not in park other than a little light on the dash, and there have been some issues, but this is apparently the first fatality.

I don't and I hate it when people who do drive my car. Katie is another one who always uses the parking break and it took me years to get into the habit of checking when she's been in my car.

I always use the parking brake. My wife does not. For the life of me I can't get it through her head it is a parking brake, not an emergency brake.

Multiple attempts to explain why have fallen on deaf ears.

I never use it. I did once because I was in an incline. Forgot about it and drove around for a long time. Apparently it ended up welding itself together.

I did an informal poll and asked ten of my work colleagues about use of the parking brake.  Seven females, three males, and eight of them currently are driving an automatic.  Seven of the ten consistently use the parking brake, and interestingly enough, those were the people who were born here and learned to drive here.  We think that the hilly terrain of the Seattle area is a factor in this.

I've spent so many miles driving around with the park brake on, that I've learned not to use them, unless parked on a very steep incline.

A lot of park brakes don't seem designed for daily use. Tiny controls all snugged up against the cabin wall, and what-not.
