Yesterday @ court, VA doc sentenced child porn (+ more)

About 2 years ago one of the physicians that worked at the Spokane VA was arrested for child sexual abuse, among other things. It was a long road for the victims and families, but not as long as some according to the judge. This guy not only abused kids in several states but he cultivated his victims over years. One family where he abused 3 of the kids was a second family to him, they knew each other for 30 years, he was the best man at the wedding of the parents.

During the motions on forfeitures, more testimony by the FBI, victims statements and final sentencing he sat there expressionless, using a napkin to wipe the table in front of him, seldom looking up.

I was impressed at the kids that gave victim testimony, the dads were angry and disappointed but the moms who gave testimony were very angry. If you hurt a kid I think letting the moms have them would be much more effective than letting the dads have them.

The United States Attorney had asked for 6 life sentences, the defense for one.

In the end he was handed 12 life sentences plus 600 years (all concurrently) on the 35 various counts related to child sexual abuse and child porn charges. He was a Physician, a prior Nurse and a Navy Vet. Maybe he thought that would help but in the end because of those being a position of trust it ended up not helping at all.

As the Judge said, it is up to the courts to send the message that the most vulnerable in society will be protected by the imposition of harsh sentences (referred to by the defense attorney as draconian) in order to help deter others. The message is if you do this and get caught you will spend the rest of your life in prison.

There was more, but seeing him going away forever was good for the families that were there, I was therein order to tell him one thing, "You got what you deserve" which I was able to tell him as he was led out.

A little over two years ago we had a guy arrested in our ER that had kidnapped and assaulted a two year old boy. At the time of that guys arrest the doc said "He will get what he deserves" while bemoaning the fact the guy was probably abusing other kids. Pot, meet kettle.

I just hope the kids can eventually put this behind them, it may help they don't remember the abuse, he would sedate them and then abuse them.

No, he should have to suffer 10 times more than those kids did....and only then should he be put down like the animal he is.

This was a strange case. He opted for a trial by jury which was his right. He mounted no defense, pled guilty at the end of the US Attorney's case. He is just a little bit narcissistic  .

They are obviously feeding him in jail, he has put on a few pounds. That should stop right now. If he has to be in jail he should be placed with others like him and they should just throw the food into the crowd, the strong will survive.

His whole defense is based on appeals. He tried to get a new trial because one of the jurors turned her head away when pictures were being presented and one of them thanked the US Attorney after the verdict was handed down.

He has never said anything else, even yesterday he did not make a statement. His mouthpiece said it was because he was going to appeal certain parts of the trial and he didn't want to jeopardize that. BS.

With the amount of time he will spend in jail we (the taxpayers) will be footing the bill for his appeals for many years. 

Yes, a fast, extremely painful death would be the right course of action, and in days past that would happen but the human race has become civilized. Sometimes that civility needs to be held in check so the human trash can be disposed of properly.

My deal is if you plead guilty you get no appeals.  I don't care at what part of the proceedings your are in when you do so.

If any court of appeals takes his case there needs to be a very vocal group of people to bitch and moan.

My only problem with sentences like this is he would have gotten off lighter if he had killed them instead of molesting them.

In the past, I've opposed the death penalty for cases other than murder.* Given the course of events lately, I think we may need to start executing people like the above. After all, we have every reason to expect pedophilia to be normalized, and praised, in the near future. If we don't execute them now, they'll be set free, and given jobs in the grade schools.





*I guess treason, as well, because the constitution; but even there I presume it is because treason can lead to loss of life.

With any luck he'll be housed in the general population when he gets to prison. I've been given to understand that a lot of incarcerated felons don't think highly of child molesters.

That seldom happens. They are usually in a segregated unit or in solitary. I know he has been put in solitary at the county lock up and even moved to another facility within the state because of his "sexual aggressiveness" toward other inmates. I expect him to remain in solitary nearly forever.

I only wish these guys were put in general population, it would probably save the taxpayers a few dollars in the long run.

Unless the guy has more black belts than Macy's, this is a problem that should have been left to resolve itself.
